I emailed as well as called Vonage about this. (Ex) Fiance moved out a couple months ago, phone service was in his name, it's still connected, he has all account info and no matter how many times I've asked him he doesn't supply me with login info nor will he change account info and turn it over to me.. And I finally figured out why - he can see who is calling me and who i am calling (no one special!) as well as probably access all voice mail online, right? That's what I'm seeing here anyway. So Vonage won't transfer phone into my name, even though I can prove my current legal residency in this apartment (my apartment!) and they said I have to sign up for new account. Seems like a lot of work to just change an account name/access but ok I have no choice. So I want to know... Will they request that I return adapter and have to send me new one? That would be dumb but considering what I've read here, it's probably an answer I might get from them. They're hard to reach to ask directly. Can I keep my current VONAGE phone number? When I sign up, and enter current *Vonage* phone number, will they be able to transfer it into my name/account or will they disconnect and then I'll be without phone until the transfer/establish service in my name.. ? Any reps with knowledge who aren't just guessing.. I'd love some advice here please.. |

Who's credit card is getting billed? If it's yours then I would think you could fix this fast. If it's his then just start making a bunch of international calls and let him track that. |

From the situation that you describe, both the service and the phone number "belong" to your ex. You will almost certainly have to get both a new adapter and a new number. This assumes that he's actually paying for the service. If it's really your credit card, then something might be done, but it's bound to be a hassle. |

It's his... And I've tried to get him to switch to mine, no luck. He won't even let me pay him.. so I guess i've put this off long enough.. I want my life back! So you think I will have to go without service while mailing his adapter back and waiting for a new one? |

If you have to get a completely new account anyway why not just sign up and keep the old adapter and account active until your new adapter arrives and is activated? That seems reasonable to me (reasonable as in given that you don't seem interested in sticking it to him it doesn't strike me as unfair). Or do you want this over so eagerly that it's worth it to you to not have phone service for a bit? |

Not at all. It's his account and it's still working, so there's no reason why you can't continue using it until your adapter arrives. There's no need to send his adapter back. When yours comes, toss his or save it for him as you wish. |

I guess I was thinking that when i put my current phone number on the sign up page for new service, that the transition to a new phone number and account might require some sort of disconnection ..
so i will probably just sign up tomorrow and hope for the best! |

Since you're putting in for a new phone number, you don't need to put your current number on the application, nor would it be appropriate to do so. The number is his. It's as if he had taken the adapter with him and continued to use it. |

yup, I'd just sign up for service yourself, and when yo uget youre new ATA, just call your friends, and lets them kow the new number, then just unplug the old ATA, hell, dont' even tell him you're using a new number, just leave it sitting in a corner somewhere, after a few months of him seeing you're not making any calls he'll cancel it or soemthing..
you need to get him gone for good, mail the ATA back to him or throw it at his house.. LoL.. |
