Hi all... does anyone know if one's address book contents is stored in a database when one logs in, or does that information resides on one's own laptop?
My 30day trial with Vonage is almost up, and I need to decide how practical it is for my own low budget international gypsy needs.
I'd likely be travelling abroad and using internet cafes, mostly in third world countries, and am trying to devise a practical (lightweight, secure, and easy) scenario for utilizing VOIP. So far, Vonage's Softphone and Skype In/Out are in the running.
I'm not fond of showing my laptop in public at the internet cafes, or carrying the heavy thing around, so I'm wondering if there's a way around it. Also, some internet cafe's abroad don't have a way for a guest laptop to plug into the internet. Some don't allow new software to be installed.
I've gotten around this in the past by bring my own CD of other types of applications and cross platform records. Can it be done with VONAGE or Skype? Would a USB flash drive be even more helpful?
Are there any security issues? My laptop is a Mac w OSX. |
