Thats great news. That will be great if you report it. We may see a new version of the firmware.

I heard back from Linksys. They said go to the firewall and "kindly turn it off and since the device does not have QOS anymore, we cannot prioritize your Voip connection." Then they explained how to forward ports, etc. (duh, I know that) Rolling Eyes

In other words, they seem to know exactly what the problem is but they're not yet willing to admit it's a problem. I had the difficulty with no other devices plugged into the router, so QOS has nothing to do with it. They must know that.

They have got to fix this because if word spreads it will be embarassing that the flagship consumer router screws over the product of a partner company. I will pursue this with Linksys and see if I can get anyone who knows if there's a fix in progress or not.

After a lot of tweaking, I think I finally have the WRT54GX2 stable with "excellent" signal where my WRT54G 1.0 got from "good" to "poor" and frequently dropped connection. Assuming it holds up, I won't want to switch.

Well I got Vonage to send me a Linksys RTP300. So far I like it alot. I turned my WRT54G into a access point and I am using the RTP300 for all my routeting. Everything is working well so I am happy. I will keep the WRT54G until the N standard is ratified and released then I will buy just an AP. I will be looking for the first firmware update for the GX2 to see if they mention it in the release notes.

What does disabling the Linksys firewall do? If I disable the Linksys firewall so that my Vonage works, will my computers be a risk?

I found also that I can leave the firewall on but change those 3 options at the bottom of the security page to disable and save. This will make Vonage work but only until the router is power cycled. At that time you will have to reenable then disable those three options again.

The problems you are all experiencing are identical to mine (I own the same model of router) I've found that it is indeed related to the firewall. If you turn it off, the VT1005 works great. You can get your phone adapter to work with the firewall on, it's just a matter of how you sequence things. I've posted the solutions here:

Linksys WRT54GX2 and Motorala vt1005

I have the most current firmware, and it still doesn't fix the problem...might take a few more revisions Sad

Folks,
I had the exact same problems many of you are describing when I first set up my Vonage account. After 24 hours of screwing around w/ a Linksys WRT54GX2 and a Linksys PAP2 I completely fixed my connection problems. The Linksys firewall is indeed the problem - turning it off fixes the connection - but the easiest solution is to put the PAP2 in the DMZ. Look at your DHCP table and copy the IP address into the DMZ field. Turn on DMZ. As long as your router and PAP2 remain powered up the dynamic IP address should remain fixed. If your PAP2 changes its IP address you'll have to reset the DMZ field to match. A static IP address would be better but that was strangely not possible with my PAP2 so I gave up.
Good luck and hope this helps.
