Yea, for some reason methinks those are 2 tech days. With all of us of course knowing that 1 tech hour = 4 regular hours.

I hope you are right! At that conversion rate we should be up and running by August 15th! Smile

Cheers!

Vonage correspondence over email indicated the problem would be resolved by the end of July which of course has passed. I think the marketing people at Vonage should inform consumers in television ads about the situation.

While this may be unreasonable, I continue to be unable to call any 310 number. Pizza hut, Government of AB, etc. It's starting to get annoying.

I know with Telus that all 310 numbers and toll free numbers DO have a real # attached to them and then the toll # is simply overlayed ontop of it. Problem is that they usually don't tell the client or the client dosne't know what they are talking about when they tell them.

Of couse this won't help any of my Saskatchewan or Eastern comrades.

*grr*

Do any of the other "Canadian" broadband companies have this problem? What about Primus?

The CDN providers, Primus, Bell, etc, all claim that "your service will continue as normal, just your bill will decrease" since their servers are located in Canada, the 800 number problem is not a proble for them.. I'm still not sure how they get around the regional parts of it, since you can be in Ottawa and get a Vancouver number, how do they let you call numbers that are only avail to ON and QC??
but then too, they seem to have outgoing CID with name working too, so maybe they know something Vonage doesn't.. they're also more expensive.. haha so I'll stick with my Vonage and use a Cell to call 800 no's.. Smile

It's all in learning how the Caller ID Info and other call data is being passed. In Canada itself, CID and other data is passed a little differently than in the US.

This was evident with the popularity of Caller ID spoofing sites that were popular a few months ago.

Some would just pass a number, some would pass info properly.

Of course we also know that the different Canadian Phone companies behave differently as well.

You would already know this if you have relatives in Saskatchewan and live in Bell or Telus land. Ever notice that 40% of the time just the number shows up when they call you, 40% of the time name and number display properly and 20% of the time either private / private or something really really messed up shows?

The appeal of 310-XXXX numbers for merchants, is the ability to have incoming calls routed to their desired location. For example, a pizza company with 300 locations can have the same number for all and your call will be routed to the outlet just down the street. This is not necessarily done on a prefix basis because the scheme still works with local number portability. I can imagine that Telus will be most reluctant to share their database with Vonage. Can anyone answer definitively that dialling a 310 number from a non-Telus phone works as designed?

See, and that's what I never understood about Pizza Hut. The 310 numbers are supposed to route to the right location, but they have 2 call centers they distribute to... It makes little sense.

I can confirm however that 310 numbers have area codes. Example 780-310-7373 or 250-310-2255.

When I call a 310 number from here I get a recording from Allstream... Interesting no?

An honest question...

Does anyone have a good idea if Canadian 800 numbers are going to be available in Canada anytime soon?

I really like Vonage, and now being able to call England for free is great. But it still comes back to the problem that there are often times I need to be able to call Canada and not spend a ton of time looking for non-800 numbers. I have read there are thoughts of putting a setup in Mississauga. Someone else said that they will add 800 numbers upon request. I tried this, but none have been added. I have even had some very nice email from someone quite high up.

Any new info?
