My friend has Primus
Voip
and has no problems w/ Canadian toll-free numbers.
The problem with going with Rogers or Cogeco, etc.
Voip
is that they can't seem to give you the area code you want. For instance, I live in the 905 area code but have a 416 and 647 number from
Vonage
. I think you can do this with Primus.
With the
Vonage
lawsuit with Verizon (I think),
Vonage
may go under anyway.

Primus doesn't have all the toys that
Vonage
does.
I enjoy
Vonage
Talk, Soft Phone and V-Access numbers. If you need a toll free number dialed and you can't do it from your phone call
Vonage
and they can dial it for you.

The last couple of days we have been having problems with toll free numbers here in Canada. I called tech support and they gave me regular numbers to call instead. I now ask a company for their non-toll free number, along with their toll free number just in case.

I am considering coming back to
Vonage
and it *looks* like the toll free numbers are beginning to work.
I am curious about the 310 numbers. Are people able to call them from a Vancouver-based
Vonage
number?
Thanks

All the 310 numbers I have tried have worked including Telus' own 310 numbers. I must say I am mystified by all the complaints about Canadian only toll-free numbers not working. I have only been a
Vonage
customer since February but so far no issues.

I tried Bell 310 number and also Greco pizza is a 310 number and I get a recording saying the number I am calling isn't long distance don't dial 1. I never dialed 1 to begin with. I went to the Telus site and couldn't find a 310 number to try out.

Hi.
I got a new
Vonage
line today and do the following tests:
(Located in Saint-Eustache/Quebec, near Montreal)
Call 310-BELL : does not work.
Call 514-310-BELL: It works!
Call UPS Canada : Got UPS Canada client service (could select French menu)
Call my bank 1-866 number: It works!
My only issue: I cannot get caller ID displayed on my phone... It says "Incomplete Data".
But if I received a call from V-Access, no problem, i got the Caller ID... (no name, of course!)
If I was on a call and receive one at the same time, the
Vonage
line "bip" and I can see the phone number!!!
On the
Vonage
dashboard, I can see all numbers well...
If only i could find a solution for the caller ID... It's less than a year new cordless phones, I do not want to change them...
If
Vonage
cannot resolve the issue, i will have to cancel... (it's my first month, so I do not want to delay more...)
That bad, since it's the only thing that made me cancel the service (I want to change to
Vonage
BECAUSE it got the caller ID included...).
All the other functions were greats and seems to works well...
Cheers!
Joel.

Post subject: On 800 Numbers
Wow! I wrote here about 800 # a year ago. Issue still not solved?
I could not return calls left by several government employees 800 #, last time a few months ago. They always leave messages with 800 numbers now. If they question your tax fillings you better call back FAST. Late/errors/interests fees can pay a full year with
Vonage
!
The general rule: if the number is “for Canada only” (not reachable from the US), then it does not work with
Vonage
. This is the case for 90% of government employees (not direct services), federal or provincial.
To
Vonage
:
1) By a small house in one of these “on the border” towns.
2) Place 2 switches, one on each side, connect them to transfer calls.
3) Profit! (Sorry could not resist)
This makes me wonder if their own call center(s) is in Canada (US? India?), they should be able to switch ALL 800 #’s call there and re-route thru local phone lines anywhere in Canada (no fees it’s 800 numbers).
Just my 2 cents.
