I tried calling
Telehealth Ontario
the other week (866) 797-0000 and it still didn't work - I got some business office that was closed. It's not 2007 yet so I'm not holding my breath.

I called tech support again yesterday regardin this issue and an agent told me they were in the process of building an outboud toll free gateway in Canada. After some further questioning he also said that they plan to have it in place before the end of the year. I am really looking forward to this if it is correct.

I received the following reply when I reported an unreacheable 800 number, in which no promise is made concerning when this will be addressed.

Dear Bruce,
Thank you for contacting Customer Care.
In response to your email, the toll free number that you are trying to
dial may be a regional toll free number and not a national number.
Companies who are using regional toll free numbers are paying the toll
charges for this call. Since calls are routed via the Internet with
the
Vonage
service the number that you are dialing from may be
recognized as a long distance number and the call may not be completed.
Vonage
Canada is currently aware of this issue and is working on
resolving this issue as soon as possible. We do apologize for the
inconvenience and request you to please periodically check our website
for any further updates.

I hope this addresses your concerns, Bruce.
If you have further questions or concerns please feel free to visit
our help & information files at

contact our
Customer Care Center at 1-877-272-0528 or stay in touch with me
directly by using the reply option on this email.
Best Regards,
Tulio S.

I contacted
Vonage
again a few days ago regarding a separate issue but I thought I would bring this up again to see what they had to say.
I was told in certain area codes Canadian toll free numbers are already working and they are in the process of beta testing the new system. Over the next few weeks they will be expanding and rotating the tests to new area's and expects to have a fully working system in place near the end of the year.
My 416 number is still not working for some toll free numbers but it seems like great news to me, I can't wait until they have this solution in place.

I wanted to let everyone here know that I just successfully called Panago at 310-0001. Very exciting!!!! I am in Edmonton, area code 780. It seems like things are finally changing.

Post subject: Interim Fix
In the interim there is a workaround feature called v access
You can find it here
http://www.vonage.ca/features.php?feature=v_access
Select your city and area code on the right hand side and dial that number before the toll free number.

I am a
Vonage
customer. As I understand I should be able to call my local v_access number and then a Canadian 800 number, right? Didn't seem to work for me.
I tested the 800 number on the
Vonage
phone and over the v_access number. Neither worked. Maybe I am not understanding things.
(The number I tried is the Ontario Early Years Centres at 866-821-7770).

As I understand it, the V-Access is meant for someone to be able to dial a local number and then enter your
Vonage
phone number. It would be a free call for that someone.
I don't think it was meant to call non-Vonage numbers, like tollfree numbers.
