how are you making these numbers work? since they are unavailable form the USA how can you all of a sudden make them work? and on a number by number basis? are you doing somme sort of routing on your end?

here's a good one try, 1-888-242-2100 it's the CIC info line, there are no 'local' numbers in existence, and it's Canada only.. it's Citizenship and Immigration Canada.. they have super long hold times so cell phones suck.. so does making the call from work..

I just emailed in Rogers Cable Tech Help number at 888 288 4663. I guess that is a frequently called number based on the taped message I usually get.

Ok well I'm a Vonage newbie (my roomie just signed for the package today, while I'm at work) but I read this and thought of an easy possible solutions (if Vonage doesn't fix it).

For 800 numbers try dialing a local free access number first. Such as the Toronto Sun free long distance # 416-644-3733. Then dial your 800 number. As you are routing it through the free long distance number which is a canadian (toronto in this case) number that should work fine.

My initial problem that made me create this thread was the phone # my home alarm was dialing to report an event. That work around doesn't work for that.

Hey I'm not god.. I can only do so much Cool

I knew that "fix" wouldn't work for you.. but I hoped atleast it would help the others with their 800 # problems. Which by the way... does it work?

My problem is call 800 numbers that are the same on either side of the border. It gets very frustrating trying to call lets say tigerdirect, you get someone in the US who are wondering what the hell you’re talking about when you give them your order number.

I have been a happy user of Vonage since February, but I had understood that the whole 800 number issue was supposed to be resolved by the end of the summer. I would have expected to see something by now.

I don't call very many 800 numbers but have encountered a few, one of which has no non-800 number for access. I used my cell phone to call this, but then I encountered air-time issues through the day when I needed to call it. Hardly what I would expect for a home phone service.

I realize that Voip is relatively new and it does take time to get things in place, but I would think by now there must be quite a few Canadian Vonage customers. I realize the number is certainly lower than US, but it is issues like this that I know prevent some people from even trying it.

Why does Vonage not want to resolve this problem and setup a Canadian access point into the POTS network?
