Hi. Does anyone know why my I phone would ring once, caller ID says "incoming call" and then nothing, deadline?

I can duplicate the problem my making a configuration change on the Vonage router, but this happens at other times and sometime in the middle of the night. Looking at the on-line received call I do not think it is a result of someone actually calling.

If you have your router wired to your house it may be mice/rats eating your telephone lines. Maybe everytime the mouse bites into the line he gets shocked and it makes your telephone ring. Dont know much about the problem but I thought this could be one of one million causes. Confused

I had a problem where my GE phone would barely ring at all, and caller id would disappear after a split second. After Vonage upped the "voltage" (according to tech support) on my linksys, it works almost perfect now. (ring is a tad weird but never drops cid).

I had the same problem as Reebok, but even if the phone stopped ringing, the party would be there if I picked it up. I wouldn't get a dead line. This sounds like it may be a different problem.

This drives me nuts too! I have another Voip phone in my house (Hey, I have to, Optimum Online would charge me $100 for just cable and internet but they charge me $90 for cable, internet, and phone) and it does the "Incoming call" half the time and the calls from 000-000-0000 the other half of the time. I don't understand it at all.
Maybe it's a modern-day Voip version of the Wargames dialer... where a dialer in the 80's would dial number after number until it connected with a modem at the other end and log it, this one might be a computer-initiated telephone line ping to find who has a Voip set out there... like a packet of data you send at various MAC addresses until someone picks up at one.
And that is #2 in the millions of reasons that may be causing this.

The other day I ran this problem of 1/2 false ring and the 20 long ring by one of the Vonage support techs. The guy asked me if I received the same 1/2 ring when I rebooted my Vonage router...I did. He asked me who the provider was...RR. He asked me if I had a second router and if I could put the Vonage router behind the other router. The tech reluctantly said that your Vonage router is receiving a "reset code" probably sent out by RR and your other router will block the reset code. Eek I still have to move things around...I will post the results.

I intermittently have what may be the same problem. My phone rings (and will ring until I pick up) and the caller ID appears. When I answer, the line is dead. It happens here in Tucson AND it happened in Seattle. My VT1000 is between my router and the modem so it cannot be a router issue.

I'd love to hear an explanation for this.

As recommended by the RR tech, I moved the Vonage Linksys router behind my wireless router per above. I was still having problems with the half rings, similar to when I reboot the Vonage router. On both of the routers I had the FTP ports open to a FTPD service on my network. I have since disabled FTP on both routers and I have not had a false ring for about two weeks now. Very Happy

I traced those about a month ago to a data line in the midwest. Area code and number showed up on dashboard. I have also had machine survey calls about my 888 number usage. I hung up. My toll free forwards to home softphone, but I think both lines have been pinged with the half-ring.
