I post this in despair as I have been looking through the forums and trying everything I can, to get my internet working at the point it was a week ago.
My setup was: modem > RTP300 Router > Computers
I have comcast and I can verify this is not a network related problem, I can hook my computer straight to the modem or through my old Linksys BEFSR41 router and my internet works great.

but...

Recently (this past week) my internet is real slow.. it will take a good hour to open up a webpage, if it doesnt timeout first. My phone will have a dialtone and be working. Through ping tests to www.yahoo.com im getting an average of 30-40 ms! thats pretty fast but yet when i try to open the webpage it once again takes a long time.

I tried a hard reset on the router, and now my computer will pop up saying I have "Limited or no connectivity" at this point I dont have an IP address resolved, so I cannot connect to my RTP300 web utility settings.

Im stumped.... I want everything running the way it was a week ago

You may have a defective unit, though I've never heard of this happening before.

I do have a few suggestions though. First, I'm assuming you have more than 1 computer and they are all having the same problem? I just wanted to verify that the problem isn't limited to 1 computer. If it is limited to 1 computer, I'd try a different Ethernet cable and maybe even a different port on the router.

The problem could be related to the DNS proxy on the router. You can try manually setting an IP address in your Windows Local Area Connection properties. Put in something like 192.168.15.100, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and default gateway 192.168.15.1. Then put in your ISP's DNS servers. If you don't know what they are, you can go to the command prompt and type in ipconfig /all <enter> when your system is directly connected to the cable modem. Do that before setting your IP address and all. If you don't have them, you can temporarily use 4.2.2.2 as a DNS server.

Yes, I have two computers hooked up to the RTP300, this problem just started last friday I just havent had time to deal w/ith it.

Oddly when i runn command and ping www.yahoo.com
im getting good results. I tried what you've suggested and I'm still not able to get a fast connection to websites. (I cant even finish speed tests).

I figured out getting the router reset and have my phone service active, just dealing with the internet problem now.
I sat on the phone with 2 different Vonage techs, 1 of which he had no idea what he was doing and another that ran me through their manual, after not being able to get my phone light back up he agreed to send me a new router.

30 minutes after i hung up with the second tech, i got my light back after tinkering with settings.

I guess ill see in a few days whether this problem is the hardware, or some kind of software issue.

I am having the exact same problems with my RTP300. When I don't have it connected, I have lightning fast speeds. Once I connect it, it's worst than dial-up. I have talked to 2 Vonage reps and neither one of them knew what was wrong and gave me completly different answers.

I also can't do speed tests cause it takes so damn long, I end it. When not having the RTP300 connected, I get the results in 15-20 secs at 3.01 MBs down and 258KBs up (right where it should be)

I have charter cable, 1 computer, NO other routers with the RTP300.............any ideas?

Also, when my RTP300 is connected, I get a window that pops up saying, "Local area connection....A network cable is unplugged". This pops up about every 10 minutes.

Thanks

Vonage techs couldn't help me solve the problem. One tech suggested I unplug everything and then ended the phone call.

The next tech said it was the RTP300 causing problems, I put the new one in today and low and behold I still have the same problem. Not to mention it looks like I HAVE TO PAY to ship this RTP300 back to Vonage and call a customer representative to get an address to send it back to.

I'm definitely not happy at this time, if i dont resolve this soon I am cancelling.

Aur

I solved my problems by calling Linksys. If you still have problems, let me know and I can walk you through what they told me. It's something so simple.

Could you post it here so other people who may hit this problem in the future have access to that information?

Thanks.

Sky,

I am still having that problem and my only solution as of now is to swap out the routers when I need the internet or phone. I would definetely like to know this fix that Linksys told you about.

Thanks

Ok...this is what they told me to do after I explained my problem. This Linksys rep was VERY trained.

Click start--control panel--network connections--right click Local area connection--properties. Next to your Ethernet card click configure. Click the advanced tab and under property, highlight(click) Link speed/duplex mode. Right next to that under Value, click the drop down box and change it to 10 MBPS/Half Duplex and click ok.

The Linksys Rep told me that my ethernet card couldn't handle being set on auto negotiate which was setting the speed to 100MBPS on it's own. The other option was to go out and buy a better Ethernet card that could handle the load. I was having the exact same problems as Aur was and now I have none and my internet speed is fast when connected to the RTP300. My Vonage phone quality is superb with no problems now.

Hope this solves your problems Aur...Please let me know

Aur,

You can try Sky's suggestion first. That was my problem. But others have had DNS issues go to this post

http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic8859.html

hope one of these will solve the issue.
