Thanks Bnr, I aim to please... Wink Maybe it is because I am getting my daughter's cold I am feeling extra sarcastic. Thankss folks, you've been great, try the veal, I'll be here all week....

Be that as it may, CPRII, you do have history ie your brother. I would have personally been a bit skeptical then of the LNP going through smoothly. And there are many Vonage reps here that could help you out, but it is a matter of how you position yourself. Automatically going to the BBB without some form of WRITTEN guarantee that the number could be ported won't get you far, in my opinion.

Also don't forget that number portability is rather new for everybody out there. The government finally agreed on a third party agency to handle transfers. But I think you will find that not all companies cooperate. I am not sure if they are required to cooperate, so the problem may be with the POTS. Some of them will do anything to keep you off Voip.

As for me I knew I could not get my number. Not because I contacted Vonage. I knew it all depended on Verizon, my old local POTS provider, and the equipment in the area. Believe it or not, I actually called the Public Service Commission in my state before I even talked to Vonage. They told me that the technology in my LATA did not yet exist for number transfers. (I like living in rural areas). They did tell me that Voip was unregulated but they saw it as the wave of the future. I made this call in July before I signed up in August. The person at the Public Service Commission warned me that I was signing onto a new technology, but based on their research I would be on the cutting edge of the future in communications. If I were willing to suffer a few headaches now I would save a LOT of money and be some of the early users of the newest technology.

So, in the end I could not get a local number. I got Vonage's toll free number option which is about $5.00 a month for local phone calls. I have not yet went over the 100 allotted minutes. In fact I have not even used 10 minutes yet. If it looks like a long phone call I always just call the person back. I find that to be little trouble to save mega dollars.

The issue I would not be able to resolve is why you would order broadband ISP just to get Voip for them. In my case I already had broadband for other uses and there was no incremental cost. Time Warner is about $44 per month. Add Vonage and you are over $50 per month. If your parents weren't making long distance calls then I am not sure where the advantage even lies. But, if they were making long distance calls then they stand to save a bundle. I cut my costs over $150 a month. I'll stay on hold a little longer for $150.

I hate you had this terrible experience. I also don't really like the idea of how a lot of service calls are handled with a lot of technology companies these days. It seems they always follow a script until you get further up the chain. But, then again, you are paying a lot less money. You can always pay more, but I was finding my POTS wasn't much better at service than most of the complaints I hear on this forum. The last time my POTS line got pulled down by a truck the repair crew came out and looked at the pole for 45 minutes, left and didn't return for several days despite my calls from my work phone and a payphone down the street.

I hope you can get this resolved. Unfortunately the best we can do for you is give you a place to vent. Hang in there.

One last piece of research. Here is something you may find interesting:

FCC Number Portability Advice

Read the "Things to Know" section at the bottom. It seems some companies don't have to release your number to other services yet. May not apply in your case but it does give others reading this forum more knowledge. Keep your old service till the number ports if your number is important. Take advantage of the free month from Vonage.

I was just reading the posts, and I just had to respond. Bnr78 and Trowski - you are both MORONS! It's as though you don't know how to read! CPRII is very clear in describing his experience, yet you are both debating him as though it's not valid, and you certainly aren't reading his posts clearly enough to respond accurately, either.

I also have recently had a problem with Vonage, and I'm trying to figure out why I can't get my number ported when they told me they could.

If I call in to sign up, I tell them, "the only reason I would like to sign up is so I can take my phone number with me when I move." They respond with, "sorry, we cannot transfer your number, but you can keep your existing number and get a new one." I say, "but I don't want a new number, I need to keep my existing number. Is there some way to look into it further?" Vonage, "No, but you can get a new number..." She was either def or dumb, much like Bnr78 and Trowski, except over the phone.

I can imagine if I had signed up, and Vonage had promised they could transfer my number, and then they couldn't, I would want a refund, too. In fact, Vonage had already told me they could transfer my number four months ago, and now they say they can't. They should refund everything if they can't get the phone number transferred, no questions asked.

If anyone thinks it's okay for Vonage not to take responsibility for making false claims, then you suck, too. Yes Bnr78 and Trowski, you both suck. Vonage screws over people and you say "it's their loss?" You tell them they can have a different number and think it's okay? What? Are you both losers who don't ever receive phone calls? Some people need to keep their numbers, because we like them, and people who call us have them so they can reach us. You obviously don't know anything about that. Scum.

CPRII's parents should get a full refund, period.

As for Vonage's support - they are retards from India reading a script they do not even understand. Does that hurt you Bnr78 and Trowski? Poor little brainless Vonage Defenders? You're both puke, and Vonage is garbage.

Stupid

Ok, so lets address this...

Yes, I have read all of his posts...And I do believe that it should have been on a trial run considering what his brother went through before having the parents go all the way...

And you just had a huge issue with the EXACT same thing, and just signed up today...Don't believe that one...

As for someone PROMISING that it can be done, read the TOS etc on the Vonage website, and numerous other sites. There is NO guarantee it will happen quickly at all. Vonage can request the transfer all they want, but there is ZERO incentive for the other company to give up the number because they lose business.

Hmmm...I can safely assume Bnr is not someone who ever gets calls (do a name check there boss) and my two Vonage lines get at LEAST 4 hours of usage every day...I recieve calls from clients saying they will take a consultant at $230/hr for 6 months...I think I need a good communications company to handle these calls...And Vonage is it.

If CPRII's parents deserve a refund, it is from CPRII..Go back and read other threads in here, you will realize that they do happen...But then again you just registered today...so read up and then get back to both myself and BNR...

As for "script readers", once you have been around awhile you will realize how to move up the food chain and get to where you want to be fast...

But then again, on your first post here you said Vonage is garbage..So I guess you really don't have a leg to stand on. Brainless? Hardly...Brainless is taking the time to sign up on this forum just to post your rant...

Bullet: No, you are not.

While you are open to express your opinions on this site, flaming, and certainly to the tone that you expressed, is simply not tolerated.

Of course you can't read this...

Personally I have found Trowski is a very informed and helpful person when it comes to Vonage. In fact, most regulars on the forum seem to be very helpful. As for supporting Vonage, hmmm, let me see, the name of this website is vonage-forum.com. Yep, I would bet a lot of us use Vonage and will probably try to help.

Bnr78, you're cool too. You were just pointing out Trowski's ability and providing some good input too.

As for our departed friend, I'm sorry about your experience. A lot of this technology is still blooming. You were communicating with some of the most knowledgable people about the service outside the company. I suspect that is why Dan set this site up, to help people with productive advice. I wish you well if you ever get to see this, but I hope you learn that remaining level headed with a productive discussion will help. Intelligence is not knowing everything, rather it is knowing where to find the information.
