Good article. I am interested to see how well this sells initially.

It looks like the UTStarcom WiFi phone is for new accounts only and is a hardware selection like the rest of the router/adapters. I would have thought they would want to sell this as an adjunct to existing accounts as well. It seems to me that it would be a much better adjunct phone to your home-wired Voip setup than a standaone primary phone.

This is a real bummer that EXISTING customers can't purchase this new wireless phone! I would have really loved to have it for my existing account, because I'm traveling all the time.

Also, their website says that it only works with "some" password-protected wireless networks. Not sure what that means.

I hope we'll get the answers soon.

i think the reason it only works with "some" wifi hotspots is because, some places require you to take a survey before you can start surfing. i don't think the wifi phone has a way to get around the survey yet.... Cry

Just got off the phone with Customer Service, and they were amazed that only new customers could buy the WiFi phone. They couldn't believe it. Even his manager was shocked.

I suspect that this is an oversite by some rushed product introduction team who forgot to put in the link to allow existing customers to purchase. If not, then Vongage is making a very serious mistake alienating their loyal existing customer base. It makes no sense why they would do that. Don't they want to sell these phones?

Right... 365 days = 1 year.... we are off by about 30 days. However, it has been talked about since WAAAAAAYYYYY before that.

So, get nit pickey if you want. Rolling Eyes

Instead of trying to define "over 1 YEAR" try to give a TRUE "start date". WIFI has been talked about for Vonage since (as early) as June 2004; which would be 1.5 years.

But, thanks for the meaningless post Very Happy

This is probably Vonage having a limited number of handsets...so they're offering it to new customers only. Also, I hardly see them offering a rebate to existing users.

Sadly, UTStarcom is just another one of the cell phone handset companies, and they run their businesses like a Soviet ministry. You get what they decide, when they decide for a price they determine...because ultimately, we're not the customer, the carrier is.
