It seems like during a telephone call that it takes a second or two for the person on the other end to hear what I am saying. Anyone else experiencing this? I am using a Linksys BEFSR81 and doing all of the port forwarding. |

Yes indeed there is delay. In fact, the normal PSTN has delay. IP unfortunately is quite a bit more. This is due to the time required to packetize your voice and send it to the gateway over the Internet.
Delay much past 200ms become quite noticeable and to a large degree is dependent upon your Internet connection. Ths PSTN is worst case about 65ms.
My OUTBOUND calls which terminate with Global Crossing bounce across 10 routers and takes about 68ms, figure another 10ms to packetize and you should be fine.
The adapter box actually introduces it's only delay, something referred to as a jitter buffer. The buffer is mainly designed to re-assemble packets that come in out of order -- but in the process of building the buffer it introduces the delay. |

My down is 3mb up is 256k and am with Comcast.
There has been a delay in voice transfer with Vonage from Day 1 for every single conversation. The delay is about maybe 1 sec or a little less. |
