Unless there is something wrong with the phone, it should work fine. My guess is you have a cable problem. The cable shouldn't be that expensive. I'd go that route first.

I had the same issue with an early version of the 2420 and a remote 2400 handset. The problem was the ringer voltage setting on my Linksys PAP2 ATA. The default is 70 volts. The North American standard is 80 to 120 volts ac. Anyway, I set mine to 100 volts and the issue went away, the caller ID stays up on the handsets thru multiple rings and I can answer calls just fine.

I have a Gigaset 2420 and 3 remote phones. I have a 2402 on the way for a second base to cover the back yard and other side of the house. I currently have Vonage on line 1 and the pots line on line 2. When the Vonage line rings, it rings briefly. So briefly, that I can't even answer the call on the remotes. The remotes act as if nothing is happening between the rings. Not a problem on the base because I can simply hit the line button and force picking up the line. Someone else mentioned putting the pots line on line 1 and the Vonage on line 2. For those of you that have it, how do you have yours setup?

I have a 2420 that I gave up on because of the ringer issues and bought the TRU 8860. These didn't ring either. After many CS calls, I finally got the TRU 8860 to ring and show CID. So, by chance I hooked up the 2420 and the handset rang just like it should.

So for all those interested, my setting for the TRU 8860 and Siemens 2420 are now:

Voltage= 90
Frequency = 30
Waveform = Trapezoidal (I believe)

Waveform has only 2 settings so you may try them both, trapezoidal and sinusoidal.

Hope it helps.

So which one do you like better? The Siemens or the Uniden?

For home use, the Uniden. A couple of reasons:

-built in speakerphone on each handset. (great for those long Vonage support on hold times)
-ability to join a call on multiple handsets.
-distinctive ringer settings
-good range in my home.
-voicemail indicator on each handset.

There are a few things I haven't gotten used to yet, but overall one of the best cordless phones I've used.

thanks for the settings info. i've had them changed to your suggested settings, and i am able to pick up about 2/3rds of the calls now from the handset. seems if CID works, then so does the handset pickup. still, it's not 100%, and wonder if anyone know why? also wonder if anyone has had success with any other methods.
thanks!

rangr - Try setting the frequency to 20Hz.

Here's a post about using those settings:

http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic6543.html

There is another post referenced there that gives a good explanation of using this setting. I may give them a try myself to see if I can fix a ring delay my phones are having.

tapetum:

thank you very much for the info. i got lucky with tech support person today: he actually was interested, knowledgeable, and thorough!
i changed the frequency to 20Hz.
the tech person i talked to also changed the impedance to 900 (600 is default, apparently). if i remember my physics correctly, the unit is ohms: helpful tech support person only knew numbers, not units... (whatever works...)
from calls rec'd after the change, things seem to work perfectly-- caller ID shows up on all cordless handsets, and can pick up calls from each handset, which was difficult before.
so for the record:
voltage = 90V
frequency = 20 Hz
impedance = 900 ohms
waveform = trapezoidal

thanks much, and i hope this helps others.

I guess the real question is...

Why on earth do they ship these things set to a non-standard ring frequency? If all the phones in the US are designed around a 20Hz ring, then what possible purpose could a 25Hz default serve? It's like they're begging for incompatibilities and support calls.
