Don't blame your Siemen's problems on Vonage. The Gigaset phones have a known design flaw (which Siemen's won't admint). If you've noticed your Siemen's phone get choppy and the touch pad requires you to double enter some of the digits, then you know what I'm talking about. This gets worse over time. The solution is that the touch membrane develops moisture between it and the circuit board. Get a screw driver and pop open the back of the phone (starting from the terminals near the battery), open the phone just enough to where you can slide out the touch pad, you'll notice how wet it is, just dry it off and the circuit board and put the pad back in, snap the phone closed and it will work like when you first bought it.

Momo - I agree with you. I have had the same problem. Although I did not know how to fix it. I will have to try this out.

In the meantime, the other issue where I cannot answer through the cordless extensions - this is only a problem when I use Vonage. It it not a problem when I use it with my Verizon phone service. I will have to get a new phone system.

Thanks again for the tip on how to get rid of the button issue.

I know that the 2420 had two different versions made. I don't know if you can tell by the serial number, but there is some extra menu functionality on the newer 2420. I wish I could tell you what the extra menu's are, but you can ask Siemens. The point is, maybe you have the older model (which may be defective) and you just need to get your hands on the newer one. I just wouldn't pay one more dime to them seeing as how they won't admit their design flaw on the handsets that progressivley get worse audio flutter over time and the touch pads go bad (see my previous post on removing moisture which fixes both those problems).

Momo - you are right in that I probably have an older version of 2420. I bought it in late 98/early 99 timeframe when, I believe, it first came out.

I think your cleaning methods will resolve the "sticky" keys and voice flutter problems (I haven't had a chance to try to clean the cordless phones). But I still have the problem with "dead" ring zones due to which I cannot answer from the cordless phones.

I've noticed I can fix the "flutter" by "flexing" the phone. While talking, grab the top and bottom and twist the phone. It goes away. Anyone know what is causing the flutter? Is there a solution? Or is this related to the key membrane also?

I got my Vonage line a few weeks ago. I have a Siemens Gigaset 2420 and am experiencing exactly the same symptoms as described in this topic. ie can not answer a call from a handset. I've also noticed that the ring tone "stutters".

The Vonage tech support didn't have an answer - he tried changing the ring voltage on my Linksys RT31P2 but it is still the same and wants me to find out what the ring frequency and ring voltage need to be set at for the Siemens equipment. Has anyone gone down this path?

Those of you that replaced the 2420, what did you replace it with? I don't need a 2 line system any more - it was convenient when I had a second line for internet access but now I have a cable connection and only need one line. (If I do have to replace the phone, I don't want to get a system with similar problems).

Thanks.

I went with Uniden TRU8888 - works fine but the Siemens 2420 was a better (more features) phone system.

Hi all,
My previous post about the moisture removal behind the keypad will fix the sound flutter and having to push keys several times to get the phone to register. However, it's a short term fix since it's just a matter of time before moisture comes back. If you want a quality cordless phone system (either one line or two), just go with Uniden. Yes, it is more expensive but no one complains about Uniden.

I've cleaned the moisture out, and it has helped the key problem, but the flutter is still there. When I hear it start to flutter, I just squeeze the phone and it goes away, but it is annoying. I hate to throw all the phones away to purchase another system. Other than the flutter I really love this system. Any other thoughts on how to fix the flutter?
