OOps. I thought we both had the Cisco ATA. Once I get the phone back, I'll try it with the factory reset settings.

I would think that the system configured with the lower amount of time or rings will answer first. I have Vonage configured to go to VM after 27 seconds (5 rings). If I setup the 2420 to answer at 4 rings or less I am sure the base will take the messages and not Vonage. I actually disabled the answering system on the base since I want Vonage to take them. What's cool is that if I get a VM in the Vonage system the Mail key will light up on the 2420 base. You can configure that key to dial *123 when you press it. I know Vonage is having problems with the VM indicator, but it looks like they are getting close to a fix. This morning was the first time that after checking my voice mail the Mail key was not longer lit and the stutter dial tone went away.

I agree txcas. I use the VM on the base because I need it for my pots line. However the Vonage VM picks up before the base for the Vonage line. The Cisco ATA doesn't trigger the mail light on the 2420. I think only the Moto does that. I just get the stutter tone.

Just a brief update on the Gigaset 2420 Configuration.

Currently line 1 is the POTS line used to place calls within the local calling area that are covered by monthly POTS charge for residential use. Also, any calls received on the POTS line.

Line 2 is connected to Vonage and used to place toll calls in-state and long distance. And calls received on the Vonage line.

Answering machine on base is set to answer line One. Disabled on line 2.

Unanswered calls on Line 1 go to Voice Mail on the Gigaset 2420 and light the "Message" LED on the Gigaset 2420 base unit.

Unanswered calls on Line 2 go to Vonage Voice Mail which sends e-mail notification to the designated e-mail address and lights the "Mail" button on the Gigaset 2420.

By selecting Line 2 from the Handset or Base unit and entering *123 (indication of Vonage Voice Mail indicated by stutter tone and lit "MAIL" LED on base unit.) provides access to Voice Mail message(s).

Pressing the "MSG" button when lit provides access to Voice Mail messages received on the POTS line.

All works as advertised and intended. Only issue is minor problem with call quality on the Handsets. New batteries seemed to correct the problem.

You mentioned earlier that you used a Y-cable to combine the POTS and Vonage lines to hook up Gigaset 2420. What does the Y-cable do?

Greetings,

The Y-Cable is provided with the Desk Station which has two ports. One port is for phone and other port is for a Fax or Modem. The single RJ-11 end of the cable is connected to the Line Jack on the Desk Station. One of the double ended RJ-11 connectors connects to Line 1 (POTS) Jack and the other to the Vonage Line. This provides the functionality outlined in the previous post.

The Fax/Modem connection could be used on the POTS line if one has Distinctive ring available from your local phone company. However, I use the Distinctive ring feature on the analog portion of the DSL line which is connected to a CommShare switch for FAX transmittals. Works great for incomming but to send I manually switch to the Vonage because I disconnected LD service on my DSL line.

I am having the same problem. The Gigaset 2420 base station can be picked up any time when the phone is ringing, however, I cannot pick up from any of the 5 cordless handsets. I have tried resetting the base station and the cordless handsets to factory default but that didn't seem to work (may work once right after the reset but then back to the same symptom). Can anyone help? Thanks

Anyone else have any problems using the Vonage service with the Siemens 2420 phone system? Specifically with being able to pick up incoming calls from the cordless handset

I returned my 2420, and use the 2402. I have not had a problem since. Also I know there are different "versions" of the 2420. I had the older version. Maybe the newer one works better?
