Post subject: Vonage Box and home rewiring.
I am new at this, in fact I just got my
vonage
phone up and running last night. The next thing is to get the line to the other jacks in the house. I have read some of the posting on the forum about rewiring.
I have 2 questions:
1) How many jacks can one
vonage
box support? I have 8 phone jacks.
2) Currently, my local telco is still plugged in to my house. I have a main line and a distinctive ring for another number. Is that considered 2 lines or 1 line? I read that some had wiring for 2 lines and was wondering if what I have is 1 or 2.
Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

It is not so much the number of jacks but the feet of wiring and the number of phones. Most people don't have a problem.
Distinctive ring only uses 1 line. You can put
Vonage
on line 2.

I have my house hardwired with
Vonage
using the PAP2 adapter and it consists of 11 working jacks with 4 phones plugged into jacks (6 working phones when you include the base station/multi-phone 5.8Ghz Panasonic set). My total REN is 3.4. I have no problems what so ever - all phones ring properly - even an old style mechanical bell phone and all phones have normal dial tone and message waiting stutter dial tone and/or message waiting lights. I've a fairly large house (approx 4K sq. ft.) so the length of the runs are probably representative of the 90th percentile or so of what most people will have. My wiring is all Cat5 with home runs from each jack to the wiring panel. I've measured the voltage of the PAP2 at the distribution panel and it is putting out about 46.5 VDC, so it is very much like the telco connection.

Thanks for the reply. You guys were speaking French to me...but I assume that everything is good and well and I shouldn't have any problems. Thanks again. Now I have to rewire my box on the outside of the house.....when I have time.
