Need a little help with my initial setup. I have just added a WRT54G router to connect to the RT31P2 that I already had.

I followed the installation on the CD that came with the WRT54G, manually produced a WEP key which I wrote down.

The installation must have gone OK, because I can get to the internet from my desktop PC which is connected to the WRT54G.

However, I cannot find any wireless networks when I try to set up a wireless connection with my laptop.

The hardware setup is as follows:

Toshiba PCX1100 cable modem -----> RT31P2 ----> WRT54G ---> PC.

Why can't my laptop detect the network that I set up? What step did I miss?

BTW, how do I get to the WRT54G administration page? The only address I know (192.168.15.1) is for the RT31P2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem when I converted to the WRTP54G from my old wireless router. It would work for "B", but not on "G" until recently after the firmware was updated. With the newest firmware 1.00.50, it began working correctly without any further changes.

From your PC, try can try accessing the WRT54G at its default ip address http://192.168.1.1.

Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to check out linksys.com for the latest WRT54G firmware update and see if that helps solve your problem.

If you're running current firmware and are still having wireless connectivity problems, you can try temporarily enabling wireless SSID broadcast and disabling WEP to help you troubleshoot.

What is the default username and password when I log into 192.168.1.1. I tried all kinds of passwords to go with "Admin" as a username, but no luck.

Try no username with a password of "admin".

I have been having same problem for last couple of days. Not detecting wireless network on laptop. Had to do 15 second reset twice on WRT54G and that fixes it. What version firmware do you have on WRT54G? I upgraded last month to 4.00.7

Definetly something going on albeit not with Vonage.

Thanks for the tipd folks. I now am able to find available networks, but am still not able to acquire an ip address.

What do I do aout that?

No matter what combination of username and password I try, including no username and admin as a password, I cannot get to the WRT54G web config page.

Any suggestions as to what is happening?

Have you tried admin/admin for the username/password in all lower case?

Did you change the password when you ran the installation CD that you mentioned in your original post?

If you cannot acquire an IP address then you may need to enable DHCP on the WRT54G.

Yeah, I may have changed the password, but I really don't remember now.

I suppose i should just reset to factory default and start over, right?
