Things have been pretty glorious since I got 1.00.47 (obviously I have an RTP300). Then just now I'm on the phone & I can hear my own voice echo so bad that I could barely speak. Since this was a more formal call (to my ophthalmalogist) talking about techy stuff, I didn't feel right in asking him about the sound quality; I suppose I should have now that I think about it.
Unfortunately, I'm not on the phone enough every day to see a pattern, & we still have the regular phone line active & ppl keep calling that no matter what I tell them so I'm not able to get a good sample of Vonage's performance.
Any thoughts out there? Oh, I have my bandwidth saver set at 90mb & I didn't want to now have to change it to something lower. I'm really getting miffed b/c this thing was working just fine a day ago. |

Thats odd. I got that once during a call last night when my sister called me. I called her back and it was fine. Does this happen every call?
And KD, miffed = ticked off, pissed etc |

Does anyone have any info as to what exactly changed from 1.00.47 to 1.00.50. I too noted my router updated today.
If they'd fix the protocol 47 issue (PTPP VPN) that would be soooo wonderful!

It's only happened once today (out of 3 calls). I made 2 outgoing calls about a 1/2 hour before the echo call & everything sounded fine. The echo call was an incoming call. I'm expecting a call from my DH pretty soon, so maybe a pattern will emerge. Of course I hope this was all a fluke, or a problem on the drs. office phone (or maybe he had a cell phone).
edit to add: does anyone know when the .50 came out? I'm trying to recall if I had any incoming calls last night on the Vonage line (even my DH keeps calling the regular phone out of habit). |

I'm thinking it was just a fluke. Of course if you notice a continuous pattern you can compare and try downgrading back to 1.00.47 and see if it gets better for you. |

If I understand correctly, you heard the echo on the Vonage side of the call...right?
The fix that was included in 47 (and apparently in 50 as well) was for reverse-echo, where the other person hears the echo. In my experience, most echo is reverse echo; it is caused by the other side of the call. If you heard the echo it was probably coming from the other side.
Of course, now that I've committed this to writing, this will turn out to be the one exception... |

What type of phones are you using? and are you calling to cell #'s? Some cell phone providers (and technologies) just have more delay and echo in them than others, regardless of what you're calling from... At the same time, it's well known that the newer Panasonic cordless phones have had problems with reverse echo. |

At the moment I'm using an El Cheapo corded phone for the Vonage; the better phone is hooked up to the regular phone line at the moment.
I'm thinking that maybe this was a fluke, b/c later last night my DH called from work & everything was fine. Funny note, he called the normal phone line by accident, & he said he heard an echo of my voice. Go figure.
As far as cell phones go, I'm only theorizing that the Doctor may have been on a cell, but I have no way of knowing for sure. I may try to talk to my brother tonight & use his free minutes for a test on this. |
