I had Vonage a few months ago and basically suspended services until I settled in to my new place (moved to another state). I since have decided to re-activate Vonage. I am told I have to pay for an activation fee as tho I am a NEW user , but I am not. Granted the old router cannot be reconfigged for my NEW number and they ARE sending me the latest router but it just doesnt seem right I have to pay again. Now I have a useless RT31P2
Am I just being a cheap ass?

Well, I think that is how they would try it. Not to say it is the best way, but it would have been easier/cheaper to have kept the service, then paid $10 to have your number changed.

In a good light though, you should be getting a RTP300, which is a great adapter.

The RT31P2 will make a good book end, door stop, target for spitballs etc

While there's tens of thousands (if not more) of the RT31P2's in use out there... I'm sooo glad that I eventually got an RTP300 from Vonage. The RT31P2 had terrible amounts of line noise (in my opinion). Maybe it didn't bother other people, but when you work in recording studios, you become rather fussy. The RTP300's been very clear & clean. Nice full-range audio on it as well.

As far as the RT31P2... You could probably use it as a spare router if the RTP300 ever gave up the ghost, but so far they seem to be very reliable. They're still relatively new, but nowhere near as many dead-on-arrival reports as the RT31's

well if they classified you as a new customer then you should receive a free month of service which should compensate you for the activation fee.

Were you paying anything during the suspension period? If not, then the money saved should pay for the re-activation fee.

heh, that's a good way to open up a can of worms. long story short, use the rtp300 and get a linksys wrt54g. let the wrt connect directly to the cable modem and have the rtp plugged into the wrt.
