I had a new house built and when we moved in, I pulled the phone wiring out of the phone box outside, back into the garage and installed a standard jack there. When I plug the vonage router in there, I get dial tone at the other jacks in the house.
Today I moved the router up to the office and plugged into that jack, and now none of the jacks have a dial tone.
Any suggestions? |

There are many variables and I am assuming you have cable internet and the office jack work previously.
The distance from the garage to the rest of the jacks is shorter than from the office to the garage and back to the rest of the jacks.
REN (Ringer Equivalency Number) states you can have 3 - 5 Plain Old Telephones on your line and although the distance of the wires shouldn't affect this number but it usually does.
Today's modern cordless phones and have a REN of less than 1 but are also more susceptible to interference, resistance and length of your wiring.
if you find a jack closer to the garage that may work or the above description could show symptoms of dial tone but can't dial out. |
