PostPosted: Thu Sep 22, 2005 3:14 am    Post subject: New Firmware 1.00.50 Reply with quote Back to top

I just got off the phone after making some changed to my wrtp54g, and asked to have my firmware upgraded. It went from 1.00.45 to 1.00.50.
Anyone else get this yet ?
I was having the trouble with poor quality (sometimes) of voice heard by others, and some problems faxing (outbound)

I have been reading this forum for a few days, and an wondering if I should...

1) stick with this router/ata combo. Good price after rebates, hopefully bugs will get ironed out as firmwares get better.

2) try speedbooster router (I have read good things about this one, actually just bought one today to see if it's better , have not yet tried it yet, just reading about the different hardware versions now (looks like this v.2, it looks like v 3 may be a bit better, not sure about v4 yet)

2a) with the speedbooster i can use my old cisco 186 ata, or get the pap2??? not sure about this, Vonage says I may not be able to use the 186 (service with that is with earthlink, which is really Vonage, but contract says earthlink)

3) try something else - I have the att g router, but when I tried it with the 186, it was just terrible, not even usable.

--------

I am just looking for decent voice quality, and the ability to send a fax the first time .

I don't have a big need for large bandwith either up or down,

The quality tests I have run seemed decent, 4.4 I think, I could post the exact results later.

They also adjusted my phone quality setting from 90 to 50., and reduced data size I think.

I'll have to see how this works

any thoughts on this?

I've had excellent luck faxing (and doing just about everything else) with my RTP300 router. (Same as the WRTP54G without the wireless) If you're having problems faxing, try throwing a DSL filter inbetween the Vonage adapter and your fax machine. I know it sounds a bit odd, but it has worked for others on the forum. Also, your quality needs to be set to 90k for faxes to go through properly.

As far as the echoing, this update was supposed to fix it. I've never experienced the echo, so I can't say whether or not this actually fixed it.

On my old Brother fax machine, having it reversed gave me no issues, but having it straight created considerable hit/miss scenarios.

Yep, I have 1:00:50 here also, as of this morning...kinda strange because I just called yesterday and had them send me the 1:00:47 update, now this morning I see rtp3000 doing the light flashing update thing and decided to check, and I now have 1:00:50

I haven't cracked open a DSL filter, but I believe they're a passive device and am assuming (big assumption) that it doesn't necessarily matter which way they're connected. For the fax issues with the RTP300, I heard people had plugged the DSL filter into the back of the RTP300 then ran all of their phones & such out of it. I can't say for sure, as I've never had an issue with faxes & fancy phones not working with it.

I don't have DSL so I cannot be responsible for the outcome..unless it works of course, then I will. Wink
