PostPosted: Wed Sep 21, 2005 4:01 pm    Post subject: Can Charges Be Put Back on the Credit Card? Reply with quote Back to top

I hate to say it but I have had my first billing issue with Vonage Cry

As a few of you know, I had some replacement adapters sent to me, both were not working out of the box. One I shipped back via UPS on my own dime, and the other I used their return label to ship back.

I noticed I received an email today stating that I was charged $99.24 for an adapter! I called up billing, and they said they only received one adapter back. As it turned out, they only showed the adapter that they issued the call tag for. (Note to self, save RA emails). I went on to UPS.com and showed him that the other adapter had arrived about a week earlier, and had even been signed for by "Novins" on the "Dock".

Well, after a while he said that he credited my Vonage account the $99. I asked if it could be put back on my card as that $99 in theory would be more with finance charges if left on the card. He said "no it cannot be put back there, just credited to your account".

Does that sound a bit odd? Can any of the Vonage reps confirm/deny that for me?

I would imagine they would just give you a 99.95 credit on your Vonage account. It seems that they do not like to give refunds on the credit card Rolling Eyes

That sounds more than a bit odd. I've _never_ had a situation where an erroneous credit card billing couldn't be credited back to the card. I'd let them know that you will complain to the credit card company if they don't fix it- and follow through if necessary.

Yes they can, I had them do this before it wasn't too difficult to get them to recredit my card. All I had to do was just ask them.

That's what I thought also, but this particular gentleman said it could not be done.

Just keep calling back. At one point someone there told me I could not cancel the softphone, they did after calling back like five times. Eventually you will find someone who will do it for you.

Yes, you can have the amount charged back to the card. However, most retailers do not like to do this because it takes money out of their pocket directly. It costs them nothing to give you an account credit.

If you're really adamant about having it put back on your card, talk to somebody in Vonage's billing department. If they will not, then talk to your credit card provider about issuing a chargeback. The CC company issuing the chargeback actually hurts the retailer more than the retailer issuing the chargeback, so this is going to get Vonage's attention if all other attempts have failed.

However, it probably isn't going to be a fast process. After its all said and done you'll probably have wasted 15-25 days waiting for this to go through. If you're not hurting for the money, take the credit, it's a good as cash.

I'm not hurting for it at all, just seemed like a normal request to put it on there and have it be said only account credit could be put on the account.

That sounds odd...when I did my adapter exchange, they did the $99, then credited it back to the card when the adapter was received.

Well, that may be what Vonage is telling Cust Reps to reply with now, whether or not it is true. And honestly, the CR can only do what they've been trained to.
