Hi,
I have a problem..... (doesnt everyone). When I turn on my MSN i cannot Call out. and if someone calls in and I answer the call drops. I called up Vonage tech last night and they told me that no such conflict exsists. Well.... I know for a fact that I cannot use Vonage while on MSN.
I located a similar thread to this and all it tells me to do is to forward the ports (MSN & Vonage) .... well Im not sure thats really an option for me because I have 2 wireless connections on this router (Network Everywhere WR11B) as well as 2 "cabled" computers which in turn use MSN at any given time, therefore from my understanding is that these forwards would go directly to a designated IP (computer) and I cannot forward ports to wireless devices.
BTW I am using the most recent version of MSN for MAC OSX, and I am running OSX tiger on a 700 Mhz machine. I have a Motorola Surfboard modem and my ping and delay times are reasonable. I am also Using the PAP2 adaptor.
I do have another router and im thinking that if i jack in the other router It may resolve some of the conflict.
anyways... Im hoping that some of you Voip tech gurus can assist me. |

What do you mean by "turn on MSN?" Are you using them as your ISP but not with a permanent connection to them or are you talking about connecting to the MSN website as your internet start page or something else? Or are you talking about launching the MSN Explorer software on one of the computers? If that's the case, what happens if you use a plain vanilla browser like Safarii instead?
Does the router provide a NAT so your ISP only see's one IP address from your side or does the ISP issue an IP to each computer?
Are you sure the PAP2 is plugged into an Ethernet port on your router and not the uplink port?
What seems strange is that firewalls in routers don't usually switch on and off depending on whether you're connected to some particular site or not. If you're able to place calls when you're not connected to MSN you should be able to place them when you are, at least as far as firewall settings are concerned. |

I am not using MSN as an ISP... I dont even think thats an option here in canada... What i mean is.. MSN messenger.
From my understanding there is a port conflict.
Whenever MSN messenger is started, on either of the Macintosh Machines, either wirelessly or cabled the Phone cannot make outgoing calls. I hear dead air for approx 30 seconds, and then Fast busy. The PAP Device is not plugged into the uplink port and even if it was the uplink "option" is not turned on (pushed in). I thought that It may have been a problem with the router and some settings i have set so i tried 2 things. First I reset the router back to Factory, Second I tried Using another router... I have like 4 for some strange reason.... nothing nada same problem.. Interestingly enough the Phone light remains on during all of this and IF i am already on a call i can turn On Messenger successfully without being disconnected. Calls will come in and my phone will ring if messenger is on However as soon as i Pick up the line I hear dead air. Even if I have turned MSN off I still need to reboot the PAP and Router to make phone calls. But the second MSN is turned on All of the symptoms return.
Just some more info for you to assist me. My router does provide a NAT. Here is some more info on the router

I am a student and one of my main communication tools is MSN messenger, I cannot Continue not being able to use one or the other.
I have a feeling that this may have to do with the Voip wars that are going on right now. Considering that MSN, Ebay, and many other major players have now entered the game.
Please everyone that has an IT background or has some ubernerd inside them looking to help someone in need. HELP ME !!! |

Don't know what to tell you. I'm using the RTP300 and can run MSN Messenger V7.5 on any of the PC's connected to it without any interference with placing calls. Sorry |
