Hi,

When at home, I cannot get a dial tone when plugging the Vonage Linksys RT31P2-VU into a Belkin F5D6230-3 Wireless Router which is, in turn, connected to a Telewest SB4200 Motorola Cable Modem box. Re-booting all the routers, modem and PC doesn't make any difference.

I have also tried to access the Linksys router from the wireless PC but it cannot see it when I enter the IP address 192.168.15.1 in Internet Explorer 6. I know the Linksys router is ok because it works fine in the office.

It would be very much appreciated if someone could tell me where I'm going wrong - especially with regard to how I should be attaching the ethernet cables.

I thought it might be because the MAC address of the Linksys router wasn't registered with Telewest but Telewest tech. support have told me that it is no longer necessary to register the MAC address of any device connected to their cable modems in order to access the internet.

You'll only be able to access the interface of the Linksys from it's LAN ports (unless you configure it otherwise).

However, have you read the instructions for what you're trying to do that are found on the Vonage UK help site?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I've followed the Vonage setup instructions to the letter but I still can't get a dial tone. The green power light and internet light are on the Linksys 'Phone Adapter but no green light for the 'phone and I've tried both ports.

I'm convinced it's the Telewest/Blueyonder SB4200 Cable Modem that is preventing it from connecting to the internet even though Telewest sent a command to it to clear the memory. Could it be firewall settings in the modem?

Further to my reply, I found the cause of the problem.

I had a static IP address set up in the Vonage Adapter while using it in the office. I thought that pressing the reset button on it before attaching it to the Telewest router and Belkin Wireless router would put it back to it's default settings of obtaining an IP address automatically, but it doesn't - had to login to the Vonage adapter to reset to default configuration.
