Post subject: Vonage ATA 186 ports
Vonage
ATA ports
I have been having some problems with my
Vonage
phone and another device on my network using the same ports. (5060 & 5061 UDP). It took me some time to figure out what the problem was but I wanted to post it here for others. If you’re using Nat forward port’s 5060/5061 UDP to the IP of the ATA 186. This solved a lot of problems I was having.
Thanks
Ghost

Post subject: thank you so much for sharing this !
i was having many problems with my smilecam both on the video and the audio , after port forwarding 5060 and 5061 to the ATA all the problems stopped and it is functioning well . I had determined that the issue was being caused by the ATA and was looking for a way to isolate it from the network but the port forwarding trick worked very well !
Thanks again !

Post subject: I'm confused...
Hi there,
I understand that you cannot change the IP address on the Cisco ATA unit, and runs with Dynamic DHCP. So, how do you do port forwarding from the router if there's no where consistent to forward the ports to?
Does the ATA unit pick a default port that I could consider to be Static?
Thanks!

Post subject: Answer to DHCP question
Some routers (such as the D-Link DI-604 or DI-614+) allow for static IP address assignment for given MAC address. In other words, even though the ATA 186 makes a DHCP request for a dynamic IP address, the router always assigns it the specified address based on the ATA 186's MAC address. Thus you have a consistent IP address to which you can forward the desired ports.

I've beeen trying to do port forwarding to the ATA186, and it either doesn't work at all, or is not stable. Likewise declaring ATA186 as "DMZ" causes crashes. Have tried four different router make/models! (Vonage service works fine direct to cable modem--just not with router.) Any suggestions?
