Fixed IP address from provider here in an apartment complex. Address is at 172.xx.xx.xx. I have the RT31P2 attached to my Netgear MR 814 router. Other devices appear to be getting addresses assigned in the 192.168.0.x range, but the RT31P2 isn't showing up at all, and I can't bring up the setup screen at 192.168.15.1.
I don't really have a handle on any of this (may already be evident), but I want to get this thing working, and thus far customer service hasn't been much help.
I don't know that the RT31P2 was attached for a full five minutes when it first came out of the box before the phone receiver was lifted. I subsequently read this is a bad idea...could it be repsonsible for my problems?
Any other recommended approaches? Should I take the RT31P2 over to a friend's house with dynamic IP addresses and see what happens? Could the Vonage router be bad? |

I would try connecting a computer to a LAN (not WAN) port of the RT31P2 and going to http://192.168.15.1 to check on the RT31P2's current status and configuration.
Since your Netgear router should be handing out addresses to you LAN, it shouldn't matter if your ISP uses a static or dynamic ip address. |

I connected a computer to a LAN port on the RT31P2 and while I can browse the Internet, 192.168.15.1 still gets me nothing and there is no voice service.
So I have the T-1 Internet service on a fixed IP address connected to the MR 814. This is connected to to the WAN port on the RT31P2, with my computer connected to a LAN port on the RT31P2. The MR 814 setup mode shows that 192.168.xx.xx IP addresses are being handed out to other devices.
Is the RT31P2 shot? Any other ideas?
Thanks. |

It could be shot. Has it ever worked?
Was the PC that you plugged into the LAN port on the RT31P2 configured to use DHCP? If so, what ip address was it assigned and what was the ip address of the DHCP server?
You could also try holding in the reset button on the back of the RT31P2 for a few seconds to see if a reset would help things. By default, the WAN port of the RT31P2 should be requesting an ip address from the Netgear router. |
