I used to get through, but since the firmware changes I haven't connected with my SAT-T60 and R10 since the beginning of September. Real tired of trying. At least I can still fax documents, and no, I don't have a fax line. I need to fax my time sheets in in order to get paid each week, so that is more important to me.

I got my Sat T-60 to work by changing the phone number from Maryland to New York, as people here suggested.

But I would like to understand WHY that works? Why does it matter what number it calls? When it called my local number - it would never connect. If I call Manhatten, it works flawlessly.

I've asked this before, but are you seeing multiple calls each day? At times I was seeing at least 15 calls to DTV between my two receivers.

Most likely if it is doing multiple calls you will already see it in your call logs. I had a bunch of one minute calls and maybe one longer calls which probably was a download. I am hoping this will be fixed soon since I am on the 500 minute plan.

any idea why calls to Maryland would fail, but calls to New York succeed? Isn't logical to me.

No clue....I am in the same boat and was only able to get reliable connections when I changed to the NY number and stopped using the MD number.

Vonage is located across the river in NJ, so in theory your call is closer to call NY than Maryland. Less distance for the data to break up.

In theory yes, however; with IP data one never knows the route the traffic is taking. The packets could be going to Texas before hitting NY .....

PostPosted: Sun Nov 13, 2005 3:18 pm    Post subject: I Have Series II Directv Tivo Reply with quote Back to top

I have a series II (R10) and it has now started making 2 calls an hour to two differenet toll free calls... one is 1-800, the other 1-877. As I understand from doing a little research, these numbers are to Directv and are for reporting pay-per-view. The local number it calls is to sync up the box with new updates and time sync. For some strange reason the calls to DirectV have been failing for the last month or so, and I'm on the 500 minute plan and each call takes one minute. 2 calls an hour times 30 days.... so I want it to stop. I haven;t found anyone at Vonage with a clue on this one. It took me 5 tries to find someone to help me with my 2-line phone set-up. Many people have had luck connecting thier daily calls to the NY number including me (I'm in TX). I suspect they have different equipment at that location, but I've read where Directv is going to change that dail in location to stop this sort of thing, Appearently MANY people are dailing into it that do not live in the NY area. Directv does not acknowledge this problem (the toll free numbers not connecting) but it has happened to many people, even with POTS lines. Then suddenly it is fixed. I have called Directv support and was elevated to 2nd tier support. They were supposed to call me back but of course have not.
