There are still quite a few reasonably large towns in UK that have yet to be added to the dialling code list.

For example in Scotland there are codes available for Edinburgh,Glasgow, Dundee and Inverness, but Scotland's 3rd largest city, Aberdeen, doesn't have a code. Smaller places like Dunfermline and Ardrossan are available, so where's the one for Aberdeen?
Exchange groups/areas served by
Mansfield (01623), Matlock (01629), Skegness (01754), Fareham (01329) are other examples.

Vonage telephone numbers are suppplied by Gamma Telecom Holdings, and current lists show that most exchanges in the uk have been allocated a number range belonging to Gamma, but it seems that there's no release date for the next batch of available codes.

Interestingly the usual (or used to be) telephone number allocation is for numbers to be issued in the range beginning with a 2 thru to 8 as 0,1 & 9 are either access codes, dialling codes or in the case of 9 old local dialling codes, or the beginning of an all figure number area code like 0141-989-8888. One example of this strange number range is Dundee. Vonage numbers there are issued 006xxx so you get a telephone number of example Dundee 006789 or 01382-006789 very strange. The use of 1 and 0 for the last 6 digits of numbers on mobile networks has alays been used because you've always had to dial the whole number anyway, but for domestic landlines you don't need to dial the code when you're already in that area so a local number beginning with a zero seems a little wierd, but no worries it's not a problem, just something to point out

The "what's hot" section on the Vonage uk homepage, says "NEW DIALLING CODES!" However there's no new ones in the list for UK at all and there hasn't been since May, they're all the same ones,so why does it say there's new ones?

I am very disappointed with Vonage's UK area codes; without my local area code i find it very difficult to give friends and family my Voip phone number as it means that they have to dial a longer number to call me.

I would love to replace my office telephone line with a Vonage line; however i will not be doing this until i can have my local area code. Companies like Sipgate have offered a free local code for a number of months now... why can Vonage not do the same.

Yes this is true sipgate cover every telephone exchange charge group in the uk. ( Around 650 exchange codes)They use numbers supplied by Magrathea Telecom.

Most, but not all Exchange groups* in the uk have a number range offered by Gamma telecom(who's number ranges Vonage use) so why they only at present use just over 110 is a mystery.

*By exchange group - this is meant that the major code offered is not necessarily the same as your telephone number. ie 0115 Nottingham

0115 could be Nottingham (0115) xxx xxxx - Ilkeston (0115) xxx xxxx
Plumtree (0115) 937 xxxx - Burton Joyce (0115) 931 xxxx - Radcliffe on Trent (0115) 933 xxxx - Sandiacre (0115) xxx xxxx or Long Eaton (0115) xxx xxxx

By using a Vonage number for Nottm area - (0115) 822 6xxx this could be used on any of the neighbouring exchanges without necessarily just the city area.

Anyway this is veering off slightly. I was told by one of the cust services staff that all the numbers are there but they haven't been told when to release them or when they will be "made live" Question is why?

The Vonage website when you now log on has an "add ons" option

this is loaded with some new area codes for the uk.

Stangely though, still no 01224 Aberdeen ( population of over 200,000 people) but there is 01771 which covers a rural area in north east scotland???

Over the next 6-7 weeks, we will be introducing a further 275 dialling codes and then another 200 or so. By the end of the year, we should have most of the UK's 700+ dialling codes available.

I apologise for the delay. Unfortunately there have been delays in obtaining the numbers from OFCOM as well as testing all of the numbers with all network operators in the UK. (eg mobile, fixed). In addition, we have to test them in our own system and this has taken more time than we originally planned.

So, hopefully, most of you will be able to find the codes you want.

Of course, you can always choose the nearest code if your preferred code isn't available--we will change the code at no charge when your preferred code is available.

There seems to have been a large amount of new area codes added over the last few days, but yet again ABERDEEN 01224 has been left off.

A city of over 200.000 people constantly keeps being missed off the new area codes.

According to records Gamma Telecom Holdings have had the number range since 2004 but yet it still is not added by Vonage.

The number range is supposedly : 01224-443xxx

Freetalk have said that they will have it by Oct 28th, but that's anyones guess.

Perhaps someone from Vonage can clarify why it's never been included in your new area codes allocations.

apart from really rural areas, Aberdeen must be the only place of a significant size in the whole of the uk that isn't alllocated a Vonage area code,

I am Still waiting for the Lancaster area Code 01524 to be added to the Codes. I am very disapointed at the time it is taking for Vonage to add the code for such a big town.

Although not listed as the "major" exchange area, it is possible to get a Lancaster number beginning 01524 with Vonage

they currently list it as Hornby 01524 2xxxxxx in their list of available area codes

You'd probably get allocated something like 01524 236xxx

Which in theory could be any one of the follwing numbers:
Arnside 01524
Barbon 01524 2
Bentham (North Yorkshire) 01524 2
Burton (Cumbria) 01524
Carnforth 01524
Caton 01524
Clapham (North Yorks) 01524 2
Forton 01524
Galgate 01524
Halton-on-Lane 01524
Hest Bank 01524
Heysham 01524
Hornby 01524 2
Ingleton (North Yorks) 01524 2
Kirkby Lonsdale 01524 2
Lancaster 01524
Morecambe 01524
Overton (Lancs) 01524
Silverdale 01524
Tunstall 01524 2

Hi Dby416,

Thanks for the reply however the Hornby Exchange (015242) is a different area code to the whole of Lancaster & all of the other area codes that you listed.

When you are in Horny (or if you have a Hornby area code) and want to telephone someone in Lancaster (or surrounding area) you must dial 01524 XXXXXX.

015242 is an area code.
