dude, I had loads of problems with my cable ISP. It may be that your service isn't what's advertised, for reasosn of perhaps being a great distance from the source, oversubscription, or high traffic at times. My lines had problems, and only after a month of complaining to my ISP did they finally check it and fix it. Now my phone works fine - no more dropped calls, choppy audio, or dialing that doesn't connect.

Check your speeds at: http://www.wugnet.com/myspeed/speedtest.asp too, as it will show if your upload speeds are too slow.

Of course, it could be the router, but who knows.

Good luck.

wow - I don't even get speeds like that. I'm guessing you're in the city.

How long have you had your service for? If it's just been a few hours, you might need to unplug the router and modem for a few minutes, plug in the modem, wait 3 minutes, then plug in the router and wait for 20 minutes. This can help anyway, even if you've had your service for a while. I still do it on occassion when my phone light goes out ( still don't know why that happens).

If I'm downloading lots of big files, my RT31P2 router gets hot and the phone light will go out - it might go out because the bandwidth is getting used up and Vonage can't see that my phone is connected, or because it's just plain too hot. Strange, and as I'm still new to this too, I'll continue to monitor it.

Try the phone tech support with Vonage - maybe they can troubleshoot with you. Be warned - sometimes one operator will say 'use your QoS, etc', and another will say ' don't bother with the QoS settings'. I had to call a few times before I got a very capable operator that actually helped me get my router configured properly (with minimal adjustments).

Hope this helps.

By the way, if you can post more info and details you might get more responses to this thread.

Under Features in your account, Try to configure your bandwith saver to higher instead of the highest. That's the the tech suggested to me and looks like it's working.

thanks for the suggestion.. i called customer service and spk w/ a very nice rep who indicated that i was experiencing some problems with some long times from 2 different hops (2 away from me) so that is probably why i experience the dropped calls immediately when making a call.. he forwarded me to comcast *my isp* to assist with the hop issue. i sent them some tracert readings confirming the hop isp that was causing me problems.. i was forwarded as an excelated issue to the next tier specialist and haven't received anything back yet and truly don't expect too.. it's comcast...

the Vonage rep also indicated that my cable modem , the rca 245r only was listed w/ docis of 1.0 and field upgraded to 1.1 which is standard but if ith the 1.0 it doesn't work with vonage.. i bought the thing a couple years ago and with no way to check the firmware or upgrade it, i just went and bought a brand new cable modem the dcm 202 which is docsis 2.0.. i'm going to install that and see if my call quality and calls work beter.. i hope so as my isp doesn't look like they are going to do anything for me..

WISH ME LUCK... THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S HELP.. I WILL TRY TO CHANGE THE PHONE SETTINGS IF THIS NEW MODEM DOESN'T HELP

I heard that the modem I have was maybe the cause of my woes, as it is a DOCSYS 1.1, but once I got my ISP to fix a problem with their lines, the phone now works very well.

Keep hounding your ISP, they should deal with it, or you shuld be able to get a discount on your service costs ( I did).

L8R

FYI, I had my settings at 30, then 50, and the call quality is barely different, but if your having upload banwidth speed issues (which you may be with a cable ISP), then I suggest NOT setting it to 90, but to 30. Really, the calls should get better, not worse.
