Hi,
When I plug the Linksys RT31P2-VU router into our network hub or directly into the BT Broadband router we can make and receive calls but for some strange reason, it stops one PC in the office from accessing its Microsoft Outlook 2000 email file (.pst file) on our server. However, it doesn't affect the same PC from accessing other files on the server or the internet.
We have 5 Pcs on a simple peer-peer ethernet network. BT Broadband gave us a block of 13 Static IP addresses (because staff need to remotely connect to some PC's in the office), and we configured the Linksys router to use one of these Static addresses.
I checked the configuration of the Linksys router but I can't see a setting that might be causing it to clash with this PC to break the connection with the its email file.
Vonage tech. support said it's nothing to do with their router and must be our network, but I disagree. It must be something to do with the Linksys router because this one PC is only affected when the router is attached to our network.
Can anyone suggest what setting I need to need change on the Linksys router?
Thanks. |

Hi,
Further to my message regarding this problem, the link to the email breaks only when I make a phone call through the Linksys router. The other new problem now is that when I call our Birmingham office it causes their 'Laplink Gold' remote control session to PC's here in my office to disconnect.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on and how to resolve it?
Thanks. |

Are all your systems using DHCP for their IP allocation.
It sounds like you may have a mix or DHCP and static assignments, with the Linksys getting an IP that's statically assigned to some other host. |

Hi,
I've checked all the PC's and they are all using DHCP for their IP allocation.
I've also removed the Static IP address I assigned to the Vonage adapter and have set it to obtain an IP address automatically. It works but it is still causing the same PC in the office to lose its network connection to its Outlook 2000 email .PST file.
I'm stumped as to why the adapter has singled out the same PC. I've checked this PCs network configuration against all the others on the network and can't see anything different. |

To be honest, it sounds like you need the services of a local techie to get their hands on the network and diagnose the problem directly.
The symptoms are, to put it mildly, odd. Some of the problems (laplink) could be down to problems with the networking config (could still be a clash with an IP on the server if DHCP isn't correctly setup). The Outlook problem...? |

Hi,
This update is just for everyone's information, so you don't have to go through the grief I've been through.
After countless hours of checking and adjusting our network settings and fiddling with the settings in the Vonage adapter I finally discovered it must be an internal fault with the Vonage adapter.
I only know this because I ordered a second identical Linksys Vonage adapter for the office and it works perfectly - straight out of the box and without having to configure it - and doesn't cause any problems on our network. |
