WRTP54G causes "page cannot be displayed" error everytime a new browser window is launched or a link is clicked. The page generally loads quickly if I refresh it once or at most twice. This happens on both of my notebooks.

Things I've done: cleared the cache, reset and reinstalled the device, called to have the firmware "push" upgraded, received a new unit from linksys, switched channels on the router, connected both wired and wirelessly to the router.

I have no issues when I connect directly from the PC to the modem or when I inactivate the DHCP function on the WRTP54G and use both my old router and the WRTP54G in my network in order to share the internet connection and use Vonage. No issues with Voip side of things.

Any help on why I can't browse or open new windows without getting this error and constant refreshing? My network previous to using the WRTP54G worked like a champ. Much appreciation to all that can help.

Using XP Home, IE Browser, Qwest DSL with filter

Unpulg the router, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. This power cycling is the ONLY thing that fixes my internet connection problem. I experience this daily and am getting mighty sick of it.

I can't believe that others out there are NOT having to constantly reset their router to stay connected properly.

My cable modem is fine. That goes months on end without needing to be reset... just the damn Linksys WRTP54G router that's giving me the problem.

For what it is worth, i have the same issue. worse the phone goes dead at the same time; i keepin waiting for a new firmware release.
By the way, unplugging the electrical from my phone also frees up the connection

I found that this problem, at least for me, is with the wrtp54g pulling incorrect DNS information, or loosing it over time.

If I go to the status page of the router when this happens I notice no dns info. Only way to fix is hard reboot (unplug power).

I'm very dissapointed with this router as my other linksys equipment has been more then I expected for the price.

Turn off DNS proxy, and hard-code your ISP's DNS servers into the WRTP54G. That's pretty much the only way to make it work. It's still not perfect even after that, but it'll go for days sometimes.

I'm looking for one of the older Linux based WRT54G or WRT54GS units to put in front of the delicate little flower that is the WRTP54G, and make the WRTP54G do only Voip duty. Linksys should not be proud of having their name on the WRTP54G, and they really need to work with Vonage to keep the Internet portion of the router working. The phone part works well, aside from the usual intermittent Caller ID issues and everything else going on with all of the Vonage Linksys adapters, but the Internet portion is "fragile".

Shoulda kept my old Wireless-B Netgear router instead of shipping it off for the "G for Free" "upgrade". LOL.

YAY! My wife found a V4 WRT54G at Walmart today! Score!

$50, to hopefully solve my problem once and for all. Unfortunately the recent $15 rebate doesn't apply to Walmart purchases.

Now, HyperWRT or one of the others... Hmmmmm.... Decisions, decisions.

If I knew this was going to be such an issue I'd have never gotten the WRTP54G.

I already have a v2.2 WRT54G and am going to go back to that and pick up a PAP2 for the Vonage services. Vonage won't refund my $30 for the WRTP54G, and of course they say I won't qualify for the rebate on the PAP2 since I'm not a 'new' customer (even though I signed up not 2 weeks ago).

I also know I can set the "P" behind the "G", but the peace of mind of my good ole HyperWRT running network and a stand alone dedicated Voip only box is worth the hassel.

Why bother? If the WRTP54G is paid for, then put it behind your WRT54G, disable all its routing capabilities, and call it a love story. Why pay more to get less? Wink

As of this afternoon, I have:

Linksys BEFCMU10 Cable Modem, feeding into:
Linksys WRT54G (v4.30.1, HyperWRT 2.1b1 +tofu10), feeding my network, which includes:
two computers, and one Linksys/Vonage WRTP54G 1.00.55

I gotta be honest, the sound quality on Vonage sounds, if possible, even better putitng the WRT54G in the middle than having the WRTP54G running up front. It doesn't make any sense, but there you have it, folks. My average "Testyourvoip" results went up a few tenths, too.

When I got the Vonage service I got the linksys wireless router. Is this router really that bad? I haven't had any problems so far. What does have me worried are future possiblilities of problems with the router. Hopefully I won't experience any.

There are several models of the Linksys wireless router. Mine is the WRTP54G. When I first got it, I fell in love. The router was top notch, and handled everything I do, including BitTorrent use (I'm into open source, and use BT for most of my software downloads to save the authors money).

Then came firmware version 1.00.52 and it's slightly-less-dumb younger sibling, 1.00.55. I have no idea what Vonage/Linksys changed, but whatever it was, it was ugly. I had to reboot the router multiple times a day in 1.00.52, and at least once every other day in 1.00.55.

So I got a WRT54G for $50 just so I can use my Internet connection again. In my case, the WRTP54G was killing me, and I'd gladly trade it in for a simple Vonage adapter if that was a choice. Though, it is handy having a spare router around. Wink

Having said all that, if you do not do BitTorrent or use your connection very heavily, the WRTP54G (and probably all of its cousins) are PERFECTLY FINE routers. They may need a restart every now and again, but it's rare in a non-BitTorrent environment with "normal" surfing, downloading, email, and Vonage use.

Now, of course, the DISadvantage of the Vonage routers is that they control the firmware on your router, and can upgrade it at any time. Separating the router and Vonage functions into separate boxes with separate firmware makes a good bit of sense from a maintenance standpoint. But, in your case, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
