So far no good... got the new linksys wrt54g setup with the Alchemy firmware... I have 3 meg cable service.
I set the the upload to 230 download to 3000 90%
port wan
Sip premium
mac address premium
ports at standard and then changed the voip port to premium everything else bulk..
Very very bad stutter when running bittorrent uploading at 20 kbs...
I was hoping when I picked up the phone I would see that upload drop, but it did not. Unless there are more tweaks my next step was to try freeman...

That sounds somewhat similar to my setup, which worked like a champ. As long as your cable modem is attached to the WAN port of the WRT, Alchemy or Talisman/Freeman should work just fine with the settings you describe.

Did you try rebooting the WRT and re-verifying your QoS settings? Other than that, is there anything unusual about your configuration like assigning the WAN port to the LAN bridge?

What does the output from the following commands look like?

Code:

iptables -t mangle -nvL
tc -s class show dev imq0
tc -s qdisc show dev imq0

Also, have you tried the "ping test" described here: vonage-forum.com/ftopic8011.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="postlink">HowTo: Vonage and QoS with Sveasoft Alchemy Firmware

isn't there only one port to plug into on the WRT..
When you reboot the router do you just unplug it ?
nothing unusual that I know of...

With you settings do you run bittorrent with at least a 20 kbs upload?

Maybe it's freeman time, and if that doesn't work maybe it's just time to stick with my verizon phone ??

I've used the configuration I linked to above with (2) 20+kbps torrents running simultaneously. I would stick with Alchemy until you understand why it isn't working. Just switching to Talisman may not change anything.

The WRT's have 5 ports, one WAN and four LAN. The QoS configuration that you describe won't do squat unless your cable modem is connected to the WAN port of the WRT and your PC's and Vonage adapter are connected to its LAN ports.

You can reboot the WRT by unplugging it, logging into it with ssh or telnet and executing "reboot", or by executing "reboot" from the Administration->Diagnostic menus.

Try running "iptables -t mangle -nvL" on the WRT (via ssh or the Diagnostic menu) to see if the rules you setup are there. I would then execute "tc -s class show dev imq0" to see if you have had any activity for Premium traffic.

Also, a quick way to see if QoS is doing anything is to try setting Uplink and Dnlink to very low numbers and run an ftp test to see if it is actually throttling your bandwidth.

On my test, I was running 2 computers, each running BitTorrent full-throttle. I also had an FTP server running with 5 users connected to it. QoS managed totally by the WRT54GS w/Alchemy. On the test, I was using DHCP reservation, then doing QoS by IP. Connection was a 3M/1M DSL connection. I let the computers run for about 24 hrs continuously and still had no problem with dropouts, choppy audio, etc. That said, the DSL connection itself is absolutely solid and I keep my QoS settings very aggressively set.

The formatting stinks when this is run through the GUI, but it looks like the MAC address rule is there. Just to verify, is 00:14:BF:0B:AC:FC the WAN MAC address of your Vonage adapter?

Try running this command to see if you have any Premium (1:10) traffic (look for number of bytes sent)::

tc -s class show dev imq0

The output should look something like this:

Did you make a phone call when you did this test? Something doesn't look right, you have less than 1% premium traffic. Almost everything is Standard.

I would go to your Vonage adapter and verify the MAC address on the sticker is 00:14:BF:0B:AC:FC. If this isn't working for you, you can try ip address-based QoS.
