How/when does Vonage replace existing older equipment (RT31P2) with newer equipment ? Are you just stuck with the older until it fails completely ?

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I think many of the people who had the Cisco & Motorola ATAs then went to the Linksys products will echo that sentiment. Now, as far as the RT31P2... well, yep, you're stuck with it until it breaks, or you have a problem with it... which there are plenty of stories on the forum to describe what to say, er, be on alert for. The RTP300 is still a beta product in my book, but it is getting better in each firmware release.

Thanks for the reply. I think I have experienced almost every intermittent problem I've read about at one time or another. Maybe that's just the nature of the Voip beast at this period of time. I guess I'm willing to live with echo's, wrong caller id's, router lock-up, noise, etc for the savings. Phone service is just not that important to me and I always have the cell to fall back on. Just wondering about hardware replacement. I guess it's the same as with the cable company. It's your box until it dies. I understand what you said about 'what to say'. Thanks

You have to look at it from Vonage's perspective... thousands upon thousands of older ATAs out there... many still working quite well, and in the case of the Cisco & Motorola adapters, were superior to the RT31P2 routers. It didn't make sense to replace working devices, and it's VERY expensive to attempt to replace that many adapters. While it'd make tech support easier to have everyone on a single unified device, it's just not practical. In many ways, Vonage is generous compared to cell phone co's when it comes to replacing equipment. If your cell phone dies after 18 months and you're still under contract, don't expect the cell phone co to give any great deals for a new phone. At least Vonage isn't charging for replacement adapters.

I called Vonage on this very same subject. Before I signed up I asked them for a WRTP54G. Their response was that all they had available in their warehouses at that time was the RT31P2. If I wanted to buy my own I was free to do so. I took the RT31P2 and it has been working like a charm for months now. I don't know if I'll go with the RTP300 if this thing breaks down. I'ld rather buy the WRT54P2. Lol

From what I've seen, the wireless routers are retail, the hardwired routers are what Vonage hands out free. With the latter, if it breaks, Vonage replaces it free, whereas with the retail products, it appears like you're on your own, at least from what I've read on the forum.
