Post subject: changing telephone number
I am currently living in Canada but will soon be moving to the UK. I am considering signing up for
Vonage
but would like to be able to switch to a UK number quickly and easily after I move back home. Is this the case for
Vonage
? Do I have to pay to do this?

I do not believe you will no be able to switch cuz
Vonage
Canada and
Vonage
UK are different ..
you'd be best to wait till you move and get the UK service.. good news is, that when you get there, you can get a Virtual Number in teh CDN city you live in now so your friends here can call you locally, rather than internationally, but keep in mind, you'd still have to pay International fee's from UK to canada if you called them from the UK..

If he has a
Vonage
Canada account how does this affect him being charged by
Vonage
UK ?
for example if you have an unlimited LD for Canada/US with a canada area code why or how is it a concern as to where the internet connection is from ?
I thought that if he had a Canadian account he then went to the UK and dialed a UK number then he would be charged the UK LD rates but if he was in the UK and call a local or Cdn LD number it would be in region call.
maybe I'm missing something.

Nope, you're not missing sometihng. That is how it works. Now,
Vonage
USA,
Vonage
Canada and
Vonage
UK all operate as separate companies, so he most likely won't be able to switch his primary number from Canada to UK. He could do a virtual #, but then he's being charged long distance for all UK calls (but still has free US/Canada calling).

the original poster said she wanted to get
Vonage
here in Canada and then in a little bit of time move to teh UK and change their number to a UK number..
this is not possible, that I know of anyways.. well, I'm sure it's possible, but they won't actually do it..
so if they got service here, then brought it to the UK they would have to keep their CDN plan, making all their local UK calls not intertaional..
if they got the UK plan now, they'd not only have to ship it from teh UK to Can, but they'd now have to dial all their CDN calls Internationaly..

Post subject: Similar question
I have a similar question, and I'm sure if I got paper I could figure out which way I'd like better, but that's why there's community right?
I'm living in Canada now, but about a year from now we'll be moving to England.. I'd like to have a UK number a month or so before we head over so we can have a phone number when we're trying to find jobs and a place to live, so I thought a Canada number with a England virtual number.. BUT.. when we get there, is there any way to switch to
Vonage
UK, while keeping the old UK Virtual number as our new primary and our old primary as our UK Virtual? (I have hesitation when I think of some of my family trying to dial an international number
)
What would be the easiest way to do this? Obviously one way is just keep everything the same, and get the $40 unlimited plan here, with the virtual number - although then we'd have to dial internationally to next door in England. (or the opposite, get a UK account, with Canada as the virtual.. but then we dial internationally to canada..)
One more question in the rambling post. If I were to do either of the two "easy" ways.. does the call route well? Or would the network think it had to go through a Canadian server if I was in the UK calling the UK?

I would just wait until you move to the U.K, sign up there with their plan and their equipment. Like someone posted all 3
Vonage
units are separate companies.
You will save yourself some aggrevation and cancellation fees. Once you get there, get a virtual Canadian number for your family to call you, then again couldn't they just use a local V-Access number to call you? I know it is an extra step for them, but still cheaper for you.

Post subject: If you can...
.. try this set-up. Keep the Canadian
Vonage
account with the UK virtual number, use that as the 'home phone' and for incoming calls from both the UK and Canada.
To make UK calls use a mobile phone as they tend to be more competitive or if you have DSL then you'll probably need a landline anyway. And to call out to Canada use the
Vonage
line.
That way you don't need to change numbers or change much in the set-up.
