I just finished my first month with Vonage. I just got charged for that first month. I thought the first month of service was free? It it actually the second month that you get for free?

if you signed up through the coupon on the forum, it's the 2nd month that is free. If you signed up directly with Vonage, it's the first month that is free.

I signed up by the signup link that my friend sent me. He's the one that referred me to Vonage. He received some sort of credit for referring me too.

You would have to look at the details of the offer. I was no refered by anyone so I don't know the offer given to those who are refered by others.

All I know is that if I refer someone to Vonage and they accept the offer, then I will not be credited anything until the person has had Vonage for 3 months. So if your friend claims to have received a credit, he is mistaken since you've only had the service for 1 month. Maybe he said, he will be getting credit if you sign up but I doubt he has already received his credit (at least that is my interpretation of the rules).

Vonage bills up front like the cell companies do.

If you signed up one month ago on August 14th you did not pay anything for the month of August- Everyone gets this free month with possible exception of retail purchases.

If you signed up thru this forum (or another referrer) you get a second month free - in your case as of today Sept 14th. Your first billing cycle where you will be charged will be on Oct 14th, which is two months after you signed up and hence two months free.

In my case I did sign up here and Vonage charged me second month but credited it when I called them and explained the billing error.

Last thing- even with the $0 bill you may still be liable for charges ie: directory assistance, international calling, 800 service etc.

I hope I explained this correctly and hope it helps.

Not exactly. If you sign up via the coupon link on our site (currently, while Vonage.com is still offering their free month offer) you receive both the first month and the second month free.

Take a look when you follow our link:

I stand corrected. I was going by only what is on the coupon. Never followed the link before.

That's weird... My friend who I used for a referral got their $50 credit within a matter of weeks of me signing up. I haven't even had Vonage for a full 2 months yet.

No, he never claimed to have gotten the free month. I just knew that he was due a month and that he'd be getting one sometime because I signed up with the referral link that he had sent me.

I stand corrected again. Maybe the rules have changed since I last looked at them. Here is what it says on Vonage's website.

Quote:
By referring individuals you agree to the following conditions: After the person you referred subscribes to the service using the link e-mailed to them, a credit will be applied towards your next billing cycle. This offer applies to new customers only and may not be used in conjunction with any other offer. To qualify, both you and the person you referred must be customers in good standing and the person referred must remain a customer for over 90 days. If the person you referred cancels before 90 days, this will result in the loss of any associated credits to both parties.
(Bold is mine)

So to summarize, you will receive a credit for 2 months free** (see note) (this I believe is something new) and it will be applied right away although if the person cancels, you will have your credits taken back.

I think this is different than what I have seen in the past.

The fine details are below:

Quote:
*FREE month refers to a credit of up to $49.99 towards the second month of service based on the plan the referral selects.
**2 FREE months refers to credit for 2 months service up to $50 based on the plan the referral chooses. Offer valid on the Residential Premium Unlimited, Residential Basic 500, Small Business Unlimited and Small Business Basic plans. Purchases made at retail or other partner locations are not eligible for the Refer-A-Friend offer. Offers cannot be combined and are subject to restrictions and limitations. Free month offer is available only to select new Vonage customers. Prices and charges are subject to change without notice. Other terms and conditions may apply. Void where prohibited 2005, Vonage.

My apologies if my comments confused people.

So MichaelG, it appears that your credit will appear for your 2nd month of service. And your friend will receive a credit of 2 months if he is using the 500 minute plan or get $50 if he is using the unlimited plan (if I am reading the fine print correctly).
