When will I get my free month?
When I first joined I followed the link that Dan threw up and selected "If you purchased Vonage at a retail store, click here to activate"

I joined on July 30th and got charged on August 30th.

Do I get next month free?

You don't.

"Offer does not apply to retail purchases"

Only online purchases, sorry.

Well thats a rip-off. Mad
I selected that option because I purchased my hardware at best-buy and thought that is what I had to select to activate it.

I agree that it is somewhat confusing by having the retail activation mixed in with the online sales link...

I referred someone last December and my account was credited the $50 immediately. I think the process may have been automated. Whether it's still like this or not, I don't know. However, it did say something about the friend having to have service for 3 months even back then. I don't think the rules have changed but the procedure may have. I'm wondering what would happen if they had cancelled within the 3 months. Maybe the credit would've been reversed.

I agree. I fell in to this trap as well. The link that I followed was the one on the home page of the forums, second from the top. I clicked the link and signed up using the "retail" option and a PAP2 from BestBuy. I saw the "not valid for retail" statement on a link further down, but not on this link (if you hold your cursor over each of the hyperlinks, they are different addresses). Since there was nothing stating "not valid with retail purchase" while going through the sign up process, I took that to mean I would get the second month free. Maybe it was in the fine print that I glanced through before signing up?

In any case, I got the first month free. I just started my second month and got billed. Called Vonage, explained the situation and they said, sorry, it was a retail purchase, and therefore not valid.

Although I'm disappointed that it happened, I've been very happy with my service and will just accept it as a learning experience. BUT, I would suggest that the site admin make the link explicitly state that this does not apply to retail purchases so others don't fall into this trap too.

That is already in the works. We certainly do not want people to be mis-lead, it does not benefit us at all.

Here's a quote directly from the "refer-a-friend" section of my log-in page.
"When you refer friends, Vonage automatically sends an e-mail with the Refer-A-Friend e-coupon to your referral on your behalf. Your friend will need to sign up as a new customer on the Vonage website using the e-coupon link that is sent to them to activate the Refer-A-Friend offer. This offer is not valid for new customers that purchase Vonage equipment or service at retail stores or other partner locations."

So, apparently Vonage doesn't offer the same deal to people that purchase from a retail outlet. Seems strange to me since logic tells me that Vonage would be better off by letting people make the hw purchase anywhere they want so get the service up and running as quickly as possible so their ROI happens quicker. (i.e. faster time to money). But there may be other costs to them when dealing with a retailer that they aren't willing to part with. My guess is that this policy will be shortlived, but you never know...
