Post subject: New Firmware 1.00.47
How's everyone that's tried 1.00.47 making out with the reverse echo issue? It seems to have done the trick for me. I would love to know the technical details of what they did to fix it but oh well... I was able to find out that from 1.00.43 to 1.00.45 fixed some sort of issue with the DMZ option in the RTP300, that's all I was able to find out.

It definitely fixed the reverse echo for me.
I DO wish that
Vonage
would publish a fix list for these firmware upgrades. It would be nice to know what changed between versions. I'm accustomed to my old Linksys router where the firmware came with a text document describing the changes.
Unfortunately, Vonage's business model seems to assume that most of their customers are IT-illiterate. And it's probably a
correct
business model.

It's not officially released yet. But people here on the forums have found that if you call customer support, say that you are having reverse echo problems, and ask for 1.00.47, they will push it to your device.

True...
But I think they don't send out what the fixes are becuase they are
Vonage
issued/compatible routers if you know what I mean. A good amount of people using
Vonage
like the plug in play theory of it, and as far as they know it is a magic fountain that gets it to work. I think they could care less what the vs number is, not that it is a bad thing at all.
More people for us on the
Vonage
front!

So far so good. The reverse echo was so bad I was ready to go back to verizon. New firmware appears to fix the problem.
I had an issue loading the 1.00.47. I loaded it on my RPT300. The screen said the current firmware was 1.00.47. I tried to call in... the router rebooted and automatically went back to 1.00.45. I thought I did something wrong and uploaded it again to the RPT300. Again, after a few minutes it reverted back to 1.00.45. I called customer support (very bad phone connection with support, but that's another issue), they had to do something on their end, 5 minutes later the RPT300 rebooted on it's own and now I was running 1.00.47. In the limited testing that I have done, it appears the reverse echo has gone away.

It's been 24 hours for me, and spent about 3.5 hours on the phone using 47 yesterday and it worked like a charm.

I never heard the echo from the
Vonage
end of the call. It was the other end of the conversitation that was the problem. Everyone I talked to complained they could hear themselves when they talk to me.

We have the
Vonage
end echo consistantly. And I know of at least one other local person that went back to SBC as a result of it, so it isn't just us. The RTP300 seems a bit better about it, and some of the changes to the gain that have been made have mitigated it somewhat.
For instance, letting my call go into my voicemail at work will do it just about everytime. Far end echo is easier to fix since it is either your phone or the router. Near side echo is generally caused by the equipment at the far end. However, you can't really ask a customer to turn down their volume and inherent latencies in
Voip
make it impossible to get the return shorter than 25ms.
What I find interesting is that many other people aren't having this problem. Unfrotuntely, I'm not aware of anyone who has had a near side echo problem figure out a full proof way of fixing it.
