This logic always makes me laugh... just because it works for you doesn't mean there aren't problems with it that make it too risky for a widespread deployment.

You should read through the forums. The reason that it hasn't been released is NOT because there are problems but because TI thinks "they can do it better."

Unfortunately in this instance, I am not the expert in this subject, so if they think they can do better, I can't argue with that... I certainly can't do better.

Since you're in the IT industry, you do recognize the curse of "perfect". I'm sure you also recognize the curse of putting out a patch to fix something where not everyone is afflicted, and the dangers that go along with it.

A company like Vonage can't afford to gamble on pushing out updates in a haphazard fashion. Other companies have been burnt before (not just the Voip industry), and have had to scramble to "make right" when firmware updates have failed. If it comes down to an extra week, and comparing whether .47 or .48 fixes the issue better, I can wait the extra week.

Seems like this boils down to risk management.

If the echo is not causing us to lose incoming callers, then we will wait for the officially pushed patch.

If the echo is a "must fix", then the reports of its viability cannot be overlooked.

I have the image of .45 to go back to if need be, I have the image of .47. I have the local URL, user ID and password to load a firmware update. I have not done it because most of my callers are not reporting an echo issue when I ask them about it and 1 reports the echo is horrible.

This issue, for me, has not risen to the level of "must have". For many, many others, it has. To each their own.

Could not wait any longer, so yesterday I finally called & asked them to upgrade.

A while after my call, I saw a pattern that seemed to be consistent with a firmware update, the line 1 light went out and then a few seconds later it was back on.

However, all the router pages still say 1.00.45. I thought maybe the firmware update didn't take. I even rebooted the router.

I have not confirmed the presence of echo yet. Can anyone confirm whether their router shows 1.00.47 on the login, status, & other router pages? I called Vonage, they claim the firmware upgrade went through, but that somehow does not reassure me.

I am on a WRTP54G... Debating whether to flash it myself, if I confirm it has not been flashed. Will the IMG file posted earlier work on the WRTP54G or just the RTP300? Or do they actually just distribute one firmware for both the wired & wireless?

Well, this was a strange experience. I tried to upload manually, it failed because it said it was a bad image, and then I chose reboot gateway. When it came back up, everything says 1.00.47.

I am guessing that the Vonage tech set it to update even though he told me he was showing I was on the latest, and the reboot just forced the download. And maybe the update failed because it was (possibly?) an RTP300 image.

Hopefully I really am on 1.00.47 now, though - and won't be downgraded later. Will have to test out the echo. I don't know why I waited, I was hoping I could save Vonage a few unnecessary support calls but a couple of months with the echo was enough.

There was a service announcement yesterday, you could have been affected by the issues they were having.
