Hello,

Got my Vonage RTP300 box from Vonage on Saturday and installed it downstream from my Westell 6100 DSL modem. I live in Hope Valley, Rhode Island (02832) and subscribe to Verizon DSL. Despite what I was expecting, my DSL has been very good, ~2.8 mb/s downstream and ~700kb/s up.

Everything worked great for the first afternoon, we called everyone we could think of, including someone in Thailand. Our Vonage connection had less static than our landline. After that, our connection became intermittent--every 5-15 minutes the DSL light on our modem would begin to flash ominously, pages would stop loading and finally the Phone 1 light would go off on the router. It lasts 1-5 minutes: The DSL light stops flashing, pages load, and then finally the blue phone light comes back with an introspective buzz.

I've tried a lot of things. Verizon's troubleshooting said I should move my microwave-emitting appliances away from the modem. Done. Release and renew the connection in DOS. Done. Reboot the modem after being off for 20 sec. Done. Hard reset of modem. Reset of modem, router and computer, in that order. Hard reset of router. Yes I've checked my cables.

From a logical perspective, my internet is what's cutting off. However if I got the Verizon service guy out here and finds out it started happening within 12 hours of getting Vonage, I'm sure he'd reassure me of where the trouble lies. In fact, one evening when I took the RTP 300 out of the loop, my internet ran just fine.

The intermittency problem is itself intermittent. I come home from work, my girlfriend tells me about all the problems she's been having, and I go surf for a while, telling her how crazy she is until a little later when I start screaming at the computer. For this reason the episode above in which my internet worked following removal of the router isn't enough to conclusively accept the hypothesis that Vonage is the trouble.

Any ideas? I do really like Vonage, and I don't want to have to get rid of it.

So the internet connection has been pretty good since I got home about an hour ago, so we tried making a Voip call. We could hear them but they couldn't hear us. Tried a few calls to different places, tried switching which phone was on the router, same thing. We're pulling our hair out because we just can't figure out what's wrong!

Could the router be bad? Has anyone come across these problems before? I understood that this would probably require a little bit of tweaking when I signed up, but at this point there's not much light at the end of the tunnel!

I guess no one has any ideas? I tried calling in today from work and the conversation started lagging...I could hear my girlfriend giving responses to things I had said 10-15 seconds ago.
