Me again,

I'm wondering if anyone wants to share how many minutes they typically use in a month. I consider us average phone users (just the two of us in the house) and I'm trying to wrap my head around whether the 500 minute plan will work or not.

I know we only use about 2 hours of LD a month because I am on Sprint now and can monitor that. The problem is that I have absolutely NO idea how much local calling we do.

I figure if some other users who consider themselves 'average' phone users will share their numbers, I might be able to make a guess whether I'm totally out to lunch or not.

I would consider my wife and I average users, we have been with Vonage since Feb 05 and overall have been very happy with the service.

Our lightest month was 522 minutes.
Our heaviest month was 1722 minutes.
A typical month looks to be between 750 and 850 minutes.

These are total minutes (incoming and outgoing).

Excellent - thanks for the info. I just found out that my 500 mins are outgoing only, so that changes things quite a bit. Apparently incoming is always free Smile

I suspect that we'll go over the 500 now and again, but that it will be cheaper to pay the overage than it would be to go to the next level ($35). We'll see though.

Keep in mind that the 500 Basic Plan is 500 outgoing minutes and free incoming. If you are still afraid of going over these minutes, keep this in mind...

1) The basic plan cost $19.99 (500 outgoing minutes). you can still use another 300 minutes before you are up to paying the same price as the unlimited plan ($39.99).

2) Since the 500 minutes applies to outgoing, and you are noticing that you are approaching 500.. you can always tell your callers to call you back since it will be free to you. If you have many callers that are long distance to you and they are pretty much all in the same area... then get a Virtual number.that is local to them..and it will be free for the both of yous.

Thanks for the feedback.

I agree that paying overage fees when we go over is definitely a viable alternative to paying for the next higher plan. And thanks to our conversation in another thread I now know that incoming is free which changes everything.

Lots of little alternatives here...

we usually only use about 300 mins of outgoing a month, we have a London number (Main Line) and a Columbia SC number for my wifes family to call us locally on..

free incomming is a sweet deal Smile
