very true. I never thought Vonage was a good deal (for me) until I switched to the basic plan. I would have never even got them if someone else wasn't paying for it. features are nice, but not worth paying more for (imo). so now I get all the features for even less than my basic pots, and never go anywhere near the allotted minutes.

yeah that's what got me to switch to Vonage, previously using BellSouth I knew I didn't use the phone all that much but I was paying $40+/mo for basic local service with no features, no area calling and no long distance plan. I'm on the Basic 500 plan and I have only pushed the limit once sofar (497 minutes). Most months I come in at under 350 minutes.

How can anyone use less than 500 minutes in a month? See my sig for current minutes, but I run almost the same amont on my cell phone as I do my Vonage line.

Its very easy to use less than 500 minutes. I mean the 500 minutes only applies to outgoing calls. So if you see you are quickly approaching the 500 minute mark, ask the people you are calling to call you back. If yer callers are long distance to you. Get a Virtual number in the city where you have most callers. Paying an extra $4.99 virtual (on the $14.99 500 plan) is better than paying $24.99 unlimited...{And for the canadians like me... Paying an extra $7.99CAD virual(on the $19.99CAD 500 plan) is better than paying $39.99CAD unlimited}...

Am I right?

<wonders> $24.99 USD = $39.99 CAD?? </wonders> Vonage needs to fix the canadian pricing.

Quite easily actually. My wife and I both work, and we don't have kids. So for most of the day no one is at home to actually use the phone, unless our dog and 2 cats somehow figure it out.. 500 minutes is 8 hours 20 minutes...that seems like a lot of talking to me. Of course, your mileage may vary Smile I understand that different people have different calling patterns. That's why I'm glad that Vonage offers a couple of different options.

Very easy - most of my communication with friends, family and clients is carried out via IM or e-mail. I was a child of the Internet the first day I stepped on a college campus in 1994 and I've never looked back.

Which is why paying $40/mo for my 300-400 mins I used made no sense at all! Even $15/mo now starts to seem a little excessive, but I trust Vonage more than others right now .. Smile

Nah, the best Vonage deal right now is Vonage UK. £9.99/month for unlimited (~$18.25 USD) I'm not sure if they still offer it, but that used to include free calls to US & Canada as well. Now, paying ~$33USD/mo for unlimited is a bit much compared to the US plan, but probably is still cheaper than the local phone co.

I wasn't suggesting that the canadian price is a better deal...(actually the total opposite). Only suggesting that compared to the US Price, Canada is getting the chit-end of the stick.

Last I checked (few days ago).. $1 US = $1.18 CAD (or less). So $24.99 USD should be approx -> $29.49 CAD. Yet Vonage Charges $10.50 CAD more. We also have less features compared to Vonage US.

I guess you are suggesting that Vonage UK has better pricing than Vonage US.. And thats great for them. I guess. Vonage really needs to keep up with the dollar exchange though. As there are Voip providers out there offering $29.99 CAD for unlimited US/Canada calls.

*caughs*PrIm *caughs*.. I wont finish that.

Yeah, I've chewed through that many minutes in 36 hrs... have done it in 24 hrs but not yet with Vonage. I have no doubts about Vonage being able to handle it, just haven't had the need arise in the past 2 months I've been with Vonage.
