I was talking to the DTV guys and they said the only receiver you have to worry about dialing out is the TIVO one.

I have the silver Hughes HDVR2


I have the PAP2 in the office plugged into my wireless router and the Dtv Tivo is in the family room. The Tivo is plugged directly into the phone jack behind the TV. A phone plugged into any jack in the house works just fine.

The Dtv rep told me to simply change the dialling preferences.

Change dialing prefix to



Edti phone settings

Keep the same dialing number but make the dial prefix 212 277 3895

since its free long distance you dont need to find a local number and the phone will only use the first 10 digits anyway.

Change call waiting prefix to #034

Keep tone

Phone detction off, dial tone detection off.


Test the phone connection and you should be set.

If you have a series 1 DirecTiVo on the 500 minute plan you do not want to follow this advice. Please see my numerous other posts on the effects of changing the dial prefix.

I am on the unlimited plan and in the last month the calls to the 212 number have been around 70 minutes total.

That is suprisingly high. Is it a few long calls or many short calls?

I went back and double checked and mistakenly included several calls we placed to a 212 area code.

However, i just did an activity search against the 212 number. Since Sept 1 until Sept 15 I have 28 minutes placed to this number.

Most are 1 and two minute calls and there are 2 or three 4 minute calls. Looking at it it appears it may have some trouble connecting at times because it will retry 10 minutes later or hours later. Have several where it tried three days in a row.

Although I looked at the last successful call and it shows Sept 13.

Darn! I wish this would get fixed soon! That would eat up all my minutes since I am on the 500 minute plan.
