Couple of software version questions.

1. Does Vonage automatically download updated software versions to the Linksys WRT54GP2?

2. Where can the version history be found at Vonage or Linksys?

Thanks,

Steve

Assuming you mean firmware, yes they do.
You can see the current version on the admin page of your device.

Thanks Trowski,

I know how to find the current status (1.30.00) on my WRT54GP2, but I am trying to find what the currently released firmware is and where it can be found, along with any pertinant release notes and dates.

Thanks,

Steve

1.30 is the most current firmware for your adapter. As to what things are fixed in each release, with the Sipura-based adapters (like yours), you can find out which Voip changes were made by going to: http://www.sipura.com/support/index.htm and clicking the Notes link next to each firmware version. This would correspond with the Voice Version number (I believe it's under the Voice Status screen). As far as router changelogs, I've not found any yet.

Thank you for the feedback, although now I am getting confused.

I am using a Linksys WRT54GP2 WAP. Help me understand what Sipura has to do with this platform.

Thanks,

Steve

Welcome to the world of consumer electroincs. Brand names are marketing tools, not necessarily manufacturers of the equipment we use. If you use a Lucent/AT&T phone made in the past 3 years, it's actually a VTech, which is why they're so similar in features and button placement.

The Linksys PAP2/RT31P2/WRT54GP2 are based on prior Linksys routers with a Sipura Voip adapter strapped to it. (Sipura was bought by Linksys a few years back).

The Linksys WRTP54G/RTP300 are actually made by a company called CyberTan (Taiwan), but the design of the circuitry and chips is by Texas Instruments

The new Motorola coming out is also driven by Texas Instruments.

IMHO, there should be a sticky about firmware.

When I first joined the revolution, I had firmware questions to which I had no easily accesible answers. Luckily I found this forum, but then I had to wade through lots of posts (some conflicting) to educate myself. There should be a FAQ list that includes at minimum:

1. How do I get Vonage firmware? (do I need to do anything special, can I block it, etc.)
2. What is the latest released firmware version (by device; needs to be kept updated)
3. What fixes or new features are included in a firmware version?

This should ideally be on the vonage.com site in the help section... but we know where the current focus is.

What concerns me are web sites like SANS, where they post multiple Linksys Vulnerabilities on the Linksys WRT54G, by referencing iDefence links where the five separate vulnerabilities are detailed.

Check out the following link:
http://isc.sans.org/diary.php?storyid=674

Folks, the word is out concerning this Linksys family of Routers having problems and I have my doubts that Vonage currently has the resources to secure our Routers by updating/patching the firmware. I can't remember when the last time I saw a Router Firmware update/patch come down from Vonage.

I consider keeping my network secure by current patching Very Important.

I purchased on my own, my Linksys Modem and Router because I was not happy with the free products provided by Vonage and my cable company. If I have to purchase another Router/Switch to keep my network secure, this would be the time for me to consider another Voip company.
