Speed Variations??Help required.

Hi

Can anyone help me understand why my speed test using the speed test tool(new version) shows upload speed of 415Kbps and download speed of 128Kbps.Always the upload speed used to be around 230Kbps & download speed was around 415Kbps.

When I check the same using other speed testers in google I get upload speed as 238Kbps & download speed as 340Kbps.

Wonder which is correct??Can you recommend a site for correct speed testing??.

DSL Reports offers speed testing. Most importantly they offer links to testing at a wide variety of sites on a significant number of networks. This is important to eliminate any distant network effects on your test.

That being said, the most reliable speed test would either be one hosted by the site you are attempting to connect to (Vonage) or one offered by your ISP.

One example, somewhere between my computer and the test on VoIP forums my throughput is being throttled to 2Mbps. Not only does the test give me a lower speed score but a side effect of the throttling results in a lower QoS score.

The best test is one that closely matches the type of traffic to be sent. That is why running a specific VoIP test (like the one offered by http://testyour voip.com) might provide a better idea of the quality of your line for VoIP calls than running a generic speed test does.
