I've had Vonage for approx. 1 month now and am very pleased with its performance and quality. I originally connected the network as follows: Toshiba pcx2500 cable modem--> Netgear wgr614 wireless router--> Linksys RTP300. 2 computers and an xbox connected to the RTP300. This setup works fine and is the one that I am currently using. However, I thought that I would try connecting the RTP300 directly to the cable modem and then run the Netgear router behind the RTP300 and use the Netgear strictly as a WAP. I unplugged all the ethernet cables and completely removed the Netgear from the setup until I could get the Linksys to sync up to the cable modem.
I plugged the ethernet cable from the wan port of the cable modem to the internet port of the RTP300 and the phone port came up and stayed solid. I was able to get DT and make and receive calls. The Internet lamp on the RTP300 was blinking. I did a a release and renew of the dhcp in the router but the lamp continued to blink. I could not access the internet. I thought the cable company (Cebridge) may need to register the device on their end but they said everything looked good and we verified that the ip address was correct between what the router was showing and what they were showing so all that was good. I rebooted the pc but got the same results. I tried using pingplotter but it wouldn't make an attempt when I gave it a url like www.google.com. If I put an ip address into pingplotter it would ping through multiple hops but would have 100% PL at the destination. During this whole time I was able to make and receive calls. Anyway, I put the configuration back the way it was and everything works good again. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

I would be interested in knowing if this setup would have issues. I have not gotten my RTP300 router yet, but right now I am running a Linksys Wireless G Router. I am thinking of turning the router into a WAP and using the RTP300 as my main router. Also, I need to get phone service in another room of the house via one of the wireless phones you can buy. I always run my wireless networks secured, how can I do this with the Vonage satellite phones you can buy. Sorry I am new to the VoIP and learning how the wireless phone thing works. It sounds simple. The phone talks with your network, but is it possible to run a secured wireless connection while still doing this. |

I would do the easy route and buy one of the Uniden expandable systems, ie the TRU8866. |

So your saying just buy a base unit that allows you to just expand off that. I am assuming you buy another phone for it that has a seperate charging unit but talks with the main base unit. That would work with less complication I was just hoping to save some money by buying a phone to communicate with the router vs. buying a whole new base phone and an expansion. |

I hate to double post, but from what the Vonage tech guy said I have not seen but one phone that would be capable of doing what he said (having a phone connect via wireless signals with my network). Then again he may have just misunderstood what I meant and was saying I can expand on a phone system like you mentioned. He acted like there were lots like this. |

there are lots of expandable cordless phones. there is about one wifi phone and I don't think it's available yet. there are a few reviews if you search for it.

Yes that was what I was asking the tech about. I wanted a wifi phone. He acted like there were lots, but I think he misunderstood me and thought I was asking about expandable phone systems. |
