Hello,
When I call someone from our Vonage number, the person on the
call will hear a beep or tone, as though I am pressing one of the phones keypad buttons. This happens very sporadically.
I don't hear the tone or beep on my side, but the person I am talking to hears the tone or beep.
We have both an old Uniden 900MHZ and a Panasonic 5.8 GHZ phone that we use with Vonage, and it doesn't matter which phone we are using, the person on the other end will hear these
intermittent beeps or tones. A 10 minute conversation, and the
called person may hear 2 or 3 beeps during that call.
We do have a fax machine / printer on the line and I physically
unpluged the fax line from the Vonage line, and the beep still happens.
I ran some searches on the Vonage forum, and did not find any similar threads.
We have a Linksys RT31P2 - Single line - Single Number.
Wireless Router is a SMCBarricade connected to the Linksys
Linksys firmware version 1.30.00
Rebooting the Linksys does not appear to help.
Any ideas or anyone seen or heard the similar type problem ?
Thank you |

This happens when the person you are talking to has a squeeky voice. You may ask for them to speak with a more manly, deep voice if they do not wish to hear the DTMF tones. |

That's some great advice, appreciate the post.
RPGUY4 - There are at least three other threads about this issue.
vonage-forum.com/ftopic416.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="postlink">One
vonage-forum.com/ftopic7149.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="postlink">Two
vonage-forum.com/ftopic6926.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="postlink">Three
I'm totally fed up with the issue myself. I've contacted support, which I strongly recommend you do as well. The person I'm dealing with can't fix the issue and has stated they most likely won't be able to fix it. I explained it's simply not acceptable to hear these tones. I even gave the tech the links to the three threads as well as she didn't think it was a common issue.
PLEASE open a case and get on support about this. The more who do, the better. Actually, it'd be nice to have this issue put into a Forum Digest so more people who have the issue know they're not alone and what they can do about it. |

I think the old Bell Sys guys refer to that as "talk off". It used to be a common problem at the dawn of touch-tone signaling.
The "touch-tone" burst is generated locally by a combination of frequencies. Sometimes those frequencies appear during a voice session and fool the TA into generating a tone burst. Most often when talking to a female, because of the frequency response of her voice.
I think it's a design problem of the TA and no amount of Vonage tweaking of the IT aspects can cure it. Some Vonage modems are better then others - my older Motorola VT exhibits the problem occasionally. Old Bell system hardware was beat on relentlessly in pre-production testing to get rid of this gremlin.
My suggestion is to trade in your TA for another model -or- get some humor in your life and forget about it. The female members of my family, not otherwise known for being electrical gremlin tolerant, seem to think its funny... |

Apologize for not finding these previous posts.
Thanks for the advise. I will open a case with Vonage to see where it goes, and perhaps push them to replace my Linksys.
Thank you |

I also have a Uniden 900 and get complaints from people that I'm talking to that it sounds like I've hit the buttons. Could it have something to do with the model phone (9.00 at Wally World)? Maybe the mhz aren't high enough? I dunno about that tech stuff but figure it's a thought. |

No, nothing to do with the phone. Please open a ticket with the Vonage tech support. The more the better. |
