PostPosted: Thu Sep 08, 2005 9:54 pm    Post subject: Panasonic 2 line phone, wierd caller ID issue with VoIP Reply with quote Back to top

So this has me boggled and I can't figure it out.

I have a Panasonic KX-TG2740 Multitalk 2 Line cordless phone. The phone was used in my old office with two lines and worked flawlessly. I have it here at home and it has been working great with my landline phone on line one and no second line.

I finally got around to getting by Vonage all set up assuming it would be a simple task of plugging the Vonage line into the line 2 port of my Panasonic phone. Well, for the most part it was. Everything seems to work on my landline, Vonage line, and so forth except one thing.

With both lines plugged in I have no caller ID on line one which is the landline. The second line (vonage line) works fine, caller ID still works, etc. Caller ID still shows up on my seperate caller ID box in the bedroom for line 1, and the old single line phone works fine on line 1.

If I unplug the Vonage line my caller ID on line one works again on the Panasonic. Trying to determine the problem I switched line 1 and 2 so that the Vonage line was line 1 and it still shows the same problem with that first line. So it matters not which is what line, line 1 still has the problem of no caller ID.

I went and bought one of those two line splitters that has 3 plugins on it (line1, line 2, and line 1/2) and plugged it into line 1/2 on my Panasonic and plugging in the respective phone lines but that didn't help. In fact I've plugged that adapter in nearly everywhere along the line to test and nothing works.

This is a rather annoying problem because most the phones throughout my house are expandable sets off the Panasonic and not having caller ID is annoying. So for now I've just left the Vonage line unplugged untill I can figure it out.

I had exactly the same problem with an at&t 2line phone... I finally returned the phone since it was new and got another panasonic and it works great... I know you don't necesarily have the same problem, but thought I would mention it..

What adapter do you have? I've got 2 RTP300's and I had issues with my Panasonic corded 2-line phone. When I had one of the devices plugged in, the phone worked fine, but when I plugged the other one in my phone did strange things, though CallerID wasn't one of them since the phone basically didn't work in that configuration. Long story short, I put a DSL filter in-line between my Line1/Line2 combo adapter and the phone and now everything works great. Not sure if this is related to your problem, but you never know. I think my issue had something to do with the signal the RTP300 puts out being simiar in frequency to the intercom on the phone.

I have the pap 2 adapter, which is an adapter that plugs into the existing router that I had for almost 2 yearrs. I didn't buy the package that had the router like the rpt300 cause I already had a working wireless router.

Just a quick bump as I've tried to add a DSL filter in many locations with the same results. I also have one of those splitters that splits a single line into lin1/line2 and have tried it with no luck also. There has to be some kind of fix for this.

i recently picked up a panasonic KX-TG2480S -- a 2.4ghz 2-line cordless. i have my Vonage line as "Line 1" and my regular land line as "Line 2". all works fine for me, after a couple bumps during initial setup.

in the manuals for most panasonic 2-line phones they do make the distinction about the kind of cord you use to plug in lines 1 and 2 into the phone. my phone came with one cord that has 4-wires and green plugs and one cord that has 2-wires and clear plugs. i didn't think this made much difference, so i plugged in the normal phone cords i had already run from my previous phone. at that time, both cords were 4-wire, normal sandard phone cords.

i didn't test the caller id behavior, so i cannot speak to how it might affect that, but i did notice that when plugged in like that the line indicator lights did not work (if another phone in the house picked up line 2, for instance, the "line 2" light is supposed to light up indicating that the line is in-use -- that did not happen).

i disconnected the cords, kept my line 1 (vonage) with a 4-wire normal plug i was using prior and plugged into the "line 1/2" port on the phone. i then used the included 2-wire cord that came with my phone to connect my landline to "line 2" port on my phone. after that the line use indicators work perfectly.

i suspect that the 4-wire/2-wire cords might have something to do with your issue as well. it's worth looking into anyway...
