Hi, I don't know if this problem has been posted before (if so, I haven't been able to find it within the past 3 or 4 pages), but ever since we started using Vonage a few weeks ago we've been having the same problem.

We are currently using a phone which first plays callers an automated message. However, if they hang up before the message finishes playing, it does not register that and continues to block the line until someone notices and re-hangs up that line. I am unsure on whether that is a phone problem or something to do with our router/Vonage. Currently, this is our (essential) setup:

Modem -> Linksys WRT54GS --> Linksys RTP300 -> Phone.

Overall, we have 2 RTP300's connected to our wireless router, which is servicing about 6 computers. There are no active uploaders or downloaders on the network, yet this seems to happen quite often.

You could also try putting the phone adapter after the modem and the router last

The source of your problems is the RTP300... It doesn't use standard call progress tones. Therefore, the reorder (fast busy) tone is different and your phone doesn't recognize the tones the RTP300 uses as the reorder/timed out tone. The Linksys PAP2/RT31P2, Motorola VT1005, and Cisco ATA186 all use standard call progress tones. In theory, the RTP300 should be able to produce them as well, but for some reason Texas Instruments/Vonage hasn't bothered to make it happen yet.

So this can be fixed with new firmware?

VonageTPA - good description of the problem.

I have a somewhat similar issue. One of my panasonic phones will say line in use even after I hang up the phone, however it doesn't stop incoming calls from coming in. If I pickup and hang up the phone it stops displaying line in use. Also, one of my BellSouth callerid units that I bought from kmart years ago has a little red light on it that will stay solid until I pick up and hang up the phone. Again, it's not causing serious problems, but sometimes someone else thinks the phone is in use when it's not.

Thanks for the help guys. We're also using Panasonic phones (model KX-TG4000B) and that's probably not helping any. Is there any way we can possibly fix this problem without switching phones or routers?

In regards to the information, we're located in Santa Ana, CA and are using SBC's 1.5Mbps/384Kbps line. Our modem is Seimen Speedstreem 4100.

I've not gotten my voltmeter out yet, but the RTP300 might not be giving the same voltages out when a call is terminated that a regular POTS does. I'm about to fall over asleep, but I believe that the POTS lines reverse the polarity briefly when the call is disconnected... or at he very least, there's some sort of voltage difference. I'm not sure if that can be addressed by firmware (knowing Texas Instruments, it probably can be)...but the call progress tones definitely can be controlled by firmware.

I did some inquirying and it looks like the default disconnect tone on the RTP300 is set to a value of

400:-240,620:-240,0:0,0:0,250;0:0,0:0,0:0,0:0,250;400:-240,620:-240,0:0,0:0,250;0:0,0:0,0:0,0:0,-1.

If we can pick this apart and come up with a better disconnect tone code it could potentially solve our issue.
