Finally got everything worked out as the additional handset had a bum battery...
So far with Vonage it has been working wonderfully...No complaints, sound quality is great etc...

One thing not reallt Vonage related..I registered the extra handset as handset 2. Then I had to return that one and get a new one Charged it and registered it and it shows as handset 3! Unregistered and tried again, still shows as #3 althought I only have 2 handsets total.

Is there anyway from the base station to delete the handsets?

UPDATE-To reset the base station with the power off, press and hold the CID, Intercom, and Exit keys while you connect the power...

My only gripe with this phone is that there is no "line in use" indicator. I'm used to my old Sony 900MHz 2-line cordless which has LEDs for each line on both the base and the handset. It's helpful sometimes to be able to see at a glance that someone else in the house is on the phone.

I don't suppose this feature is availlable somehow on the TRU 8866 and I am just overlooking it?

It shows you right on the base and the handsets if a line is in use on the screens.

In my experience this only works wnen a line is being used by the 8866 base or handset. There is no indicator when one of the wired phones in the house is using a line.

that's why i ended up returning my tru8866 -- the line indicator worked great if the handset or base is the one using said line, but if another phone elsewhere in the house was using it then it just didn't work. very frustrating, since i was used to my previous panasonic which worked as it should (any phone picks up, the line in-use indicator would light up).

another gripe i had was the sound quality, too :-/ lots of people have said they love the clarity of the unidens, but for me it was kinda intermittent. at times it would sound great, but at other times i would hear myself pretty loudly through the handset, and it would give me an echo or distorted garbled kinda sound in the earpiece... i learned to ignore it after a while, moreso because i simply expected it. and it was not only on my Vonage line -- at first i thought the echo was from the Vonage, but it happened just the same on my normal land-line -- i found that turning the volume down on the handset helped, but it still happened.

andthe range kinda sucked, too Razz i couldn't walk very far outside of my house (certainly less than 50 feet direct line-of-site from the base unit) until i'd start to have distortion and ultimate fade. also, if i went downstairs and down a hall (which is literally directly down one floor and to the side about 30 feet from the base unit, pretty much down one floor and over one room) i'd totally lose signal. i'm sure it could have something to do with my particular house, or some other factors, but it was really within such a compact area that i couldn't believe i'd have range issues within a house... sure if it was spread out far or walking way down the driveway or something, but from upstairs to downstairs?

oh, and another thing i hated -- the caller id wasn't linked to the phone book. so if i had my numbers programmed in the phonebook, and someone called me from a number in the phonebook, it'd show the normal caller-id instead of showing me the label from that number in the phonebook. this is a pretty basic thing... and most people i think come to expect this sort of functionality. i can't tell you how many times i'd get calls from "wireless caller" where i couldn't remember whose number it was that was showing since a lot of my friends and family have similar numbers... on the phone i have now it just shows me the label from the phone book (like "so-and-so's cell").

i actually liked the design of the phone, though. it was a nice compact unit. the menus seemed to flow nice, and the operation of the phone was intuitive. the speakerphone also performed great. i can't help but think, though, that the lack of external antennas on either the handset or base unit helped to make some of my quality/range issues worse. most other phones, specifically the panasonics which still seem to be some of the most stable performers, have antennas (especially on the base) so how they get away with an antenna and expect great range is somewhat baffling.

i kinda hope uniden improves some things and comes out with another version next year -- one with cid/phonebook lookup and a working line in-use indicator would be an excellent start. range is probably less of an issue and could be tweaked by relocating the units, so i wouldn't expect them to improve that much, but tweaking some of the features could prove to be great.

I actually won of those TRU phones in a raffle here at Vonage. I hooked it up right next to my Uniden Beta test phone, which has a similar base design, but is way bigger and not wall mountable. The TRU phone works, but sometimes the handset won't pick up. I don't know if its because there are 2 Uniden cordless bases right next to one another or what, because sometimes it works perfectly.

Sound quality? Meh. Nothing that blew my doors off, no complaints though.

My main gripe with that thing is its freakin SMALL. The Uniden UIP is like twice the size, now thats a serious phone.

Next up! Today got to check out the new NEW motorola 2442 router! Many people are beta testing this one but not me this time - I have a beta already. I will let you all know what I hear about this promising new router.
