I cannot make calls from my Vonage (PA) account to a particular Verizon NJ phone number.

1. The number I am calling has the Verizon voicemail. She has a regular outgoing message on the Voicemail (her recorded voice).
2. When I call from my Vonage, there are no rings, and it automatically goes to the Verizon voicemail, BUT....
3. It is an automated (computerized) outgoing voicemail, like the default one you get if you don't create your own personalized message.
4. If I call using my cellphone or another land line, the call is placed or I go to the regular voicemail.

I called Vonage last night and they have never heard of problems from Vonage to Verizon. They have heard of opposite issues. The tech assumed that it was a Verizon software issue, but it has been days and I still cannot place calls to this particular number (Verizon Area Code 908)

Has anyone heard of or had such an issue? Any ideas on what to do about it (if anything)?

OK. I figured out the issue in case anyone wants to know... The person that I am calling signed up with Vonage and is transferring their current telephone number. For some reason, since I have Vonage, it is automatically placing me into their Vonage voicemail, even though Verizon has not released the number to Vonage yet.

This is not the way it should work. Mad

So, Vonage is not letting my call into the Vonage network.

Bad. Very bad. Could you imagine what kind of havoc this can cause when people are switching over to Vonage, not knowing of this issue???

Well, at least I have an asnwer...

I found this out the hard way today too. I'm porting my primary number to Vonage. Another Vonage user tried to call me today at home (using the primary number I'm porting over to Vonage). In my case, I have no ATA yet, and I had already configured a "Network Availability Number" in the dashboard under "Features", so it rang through to my cell phone . So no missed call, although I was puzzled for a while trying to figure out how this person got my cell phone #..

So I guess for the next month or so while my number is being ported, Vonage callers will ring through to the ATA even though the transfer hasn't completed yet. Until my ATA arrives it'll ring through to my cell phone.

maybe it's not the way it should work in your opinion, but it is the way it works (in other words, that's standard, no one screwed up your or their account)

Well, if that's the way it works, it is bad. For a regular telephone user (who happens to have Vonage), how in the world would they know that this is happening? The person I was calling has not even connected their Vonage yet. All I knew is that the phone # was not transferred yet. And Vonage customer service could not answer this behavior.

At the very minimum, there should be a message telling the Vonage caller that the # they are calling is in the process of being transferred, and that it will be directed to the Vonage temporary #. Or, we should be able to dial a code so that I can access the real phone# while the transfer is taking place.

No matter what, I should be able to place the call from my Vonage line to the Verizon line.
There should be a way, but from what I gather, it's impossible...

get your friend to forward their calls to their landline number for now then, this way the calls will get answered.. they dont' need their ATA yet just log in to their web acct.. Smile
